The Film Lovers Thread!

I saw shadow of a doubt yesterday, and it's truly fantastic. How the astmosphere goes from nice and friendly too soo extremely scary in the last 30 minutes is amazing. It almost frighten me more than psycho, how the niece knows her uncle is going to kill her, but can't do anything about it..

just want to bump this up, as it's a really great thread :D

I watched Fargo (again) and the big lebovskvi last night, such great movies.

I just watched on Pan's labyrinth. It was very touching movie I think. Ending reminds me little bit A1 but maybe not so Disney. Movie was really extreme, there was war and lots of violent and then there was very intresting part when girl dreaming. I like it very much.

It's really crazy though

I kinda like Reese too. Legally Blonde is so great (number two's horrible tho), and she was really great in walk the line.

didn't she get oscar for walk the line? hmmm... I think i might go with a "movie-weekend" in a couple of days and just relax and watch tons of movies.. :D

I watched The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004)by Asia Argento. It is based on the novel of the same title written by JT LeRoy.

I had waited for a long time to see this film, as I missed it when it was in theaters and couldn't find it at video rent shops. It was exactly how I thought it to be, and it didn't have anything that would make it really stand out of the crowd. Without Argento's performance as the drug addict mother Sarah the whole film would've been rather boring.

What did interest me in this film are the unanswered questions. There are no "good" and "bad" positions in this. What does Argento mean by this, or does she mean anything at all? What is her point of view to the subject? Why did she choose this story? Is there a message in the story or not?

What did you think of this film?

I've never seen it, but did a search on imdb and it seems very interesting.. Could you give me some more info?

Do you know about the plot? If you have seen any work by Harmony Korine (which I haven't seen), the style of this film is apparently similar.

It tells the story of Sarah (Argento), who is a drug addict who funds her habit with prostitution, striptease etc. She had her child when she was fifteen and it was given to a foster family. Now the boy, Jeremiah (Jimmy Bennett), is almost seven, and Sarah wants him back. Well, she gets him and the film is about how they go around the US when Sarah switches from men and pimp to another, sometimes leaves Jeremiah for some years etc. Basically it is a very traditional drug "indie" film... it tries to be artistic so hard.

There is also a fun cameo from -- you would never guess -- Winona Ryder, who plays a child psychiatrist in a quick scene after Jeremiah has been raped by one of Sarah's boyfriends.

i saw another film by harmony korine, gummo.
i like it, the music, the ambience, and the casting OMG, amazing!!!

I have an annoying image about Korine being "so hip and cool and edgy and indie" as the rest of that scene (i.e Gallo, Sevigny)... that's what puts me off to watch his work. Not that I have had the chance to.

Rope is my fav Hitchcock. Def. worth a watch!
I just watched it on it was very pressing and actually quite horrible. Some how it reminds me about Bully even if it doesn't be same at all. Well, ok both was about killing.. I'm not gonna watch it very soon either :innocent:

I recently saw Amelie-years after everyone else and I loved it.
Just about everything about it was wonderful-the quirkiness, romance, cinamatography. The Cinamatography was my favorite part-the scene where Amelie's throwing the rock and the camera's panning over head before going right above the water and she throws the stone towards it. Def one of my fave scenes to date. It's just so beautifuly shot, especially with the music.

I'm hoping to see Pan's Labryinth soon. I have to find it though, since I don't live near a major movie theater, despite living close to a major city.

Babel was pretty good, although sometimes I wish I could've separated each story into four individual movies, especially the deaf girls. (I can't remember her name)

Does anyone have those movies that might not be pretty acclaimed and people find aren't cinamatic genius or Academy Award "worthy" yet they love them anyway? People are always surprised to find I love Zoolander.

kawari i believe pan's labyrinth just came out on dvd so you should be able to find it relatively easily... there's a short wait for it on netflix (i have it in my queue as i haven't seen it either :p)

also, amelie is one of my favorite movies--the soundtrack is great as well--most of it (maybe all?) is instrumental but I find it sort of soothing and uplifting... everytime i listen to any of the songs they remind me of the movie and of certain scenes and i get a good feeling ^_^

I watched '' The Machinist '' with Christian Bale the other day... I was beyong impressed. Christian Bale lost around 100 pounds for that role. He looks skeletal.. but the movie is a very well done thriller. It's a bit like Fight Club in some ways. I reccomend it. :)

Thanks ChrissyM...I'll probably buy it after I get paid. Amelie is amazing!

I actually haven't seen The Machinist yet, despite hearing good things about it and having it available. I just haven't gotten around to it, although Christian dedicated himself to that role. All that weight loss, and then he put it right back on for Batman Begins. Crazy...

Has anyone seen the French film The Valet? I just saw it on Friday at an art/indie/foreign theatre, and really enjoyed it. It was very funny and cute!
