The Hair "Down There"

Alright, it might be a bit strange, but can anyone explain to me why women need to shave?

What's wrong with the natural hair?

Well, in a bathing suit or a cute pair of knickers, it doesn't look particularly attractive to have hair sprouting out the sides.

That said, I think a bikini line wax and trim of the main area are sufficient. Brazilians are NOT necessary.

Personally, my hair doesn't stick out of bathing suits. That sort of thing depends on the individual I think.

Well, men shave their beard but I am not sure if this is culturally required of them to shave their legs or armpits?

I am not really look for an argument...Sorry if I sound weird! I am just curious because this seems very "new" to me. I didn't grow up in a shaving culture.

Well, if you really want to know... personally I trim because it is 'safer' that way. Sometimes the hair curls in a way that causes a lot of pain so I keep it shorter to avoid that situation and making a fool out of myself in public by jumping about yelping or walking like a penguin.

I wax my bikini line because I like the neat triangle look.

Women shave it's considered culturally refined/physically attractive. It's all for vanity;)

i know people in p*rn (mostly girls, but i know some guys do too) and in swimming (both guys and girls) have to shave; p*rn for the "clarity" and swimming for not letting the hair slows u down...

my swimsuit is a boyshort with a takini so i dont need to worry about shaving or waxing but any recommendation for sensitive skin?

As an ex-swimmer, the hair "down there" isn't much of an issue unless it gets out of the suit. Shaving is mostly arm/leg/armpit/ head (for guys who don't want to cap). For weeks before a big meet, we don't shave, because having more hair = slower = better practice. Then when we do shave, we go faster.^_^

Well, women do not need to shave at all. It's a personal preference. Pubic hair is there for a reason and one is that it can act as a barrier/filter in preventing dirt, debris and bacteria from entering the vagina or urethra. It can help keep desirable & natural scents down there like phermones. It can also help to reduce friction during physical actvitity running, etc...also chafing during coitus, also provides warmth and protection.

What's wrong with the natural hair?
Absolutely nothing!

Honestly, I usually let it go (no reason to shave all the time -- nobody sees it but me, at the moment) but when I do feel like shaving I shave a "landing strip." It's more of a mini "landing strip" just cleaning up the edges. I'm not hairy at all though so I could go natural and not have any problems. Either way, I always want to leave a little bit because I don't like the completely bare look (it reminds me of pre-pubescence).

I get mine waxed now and I wouldn't go back to shaving or leaving it natural. Although I dont get the whole lot done, just tidied up.

What do people do re. the hair that is left there though. Do you trim it? How short? I always find that since the hair is so coarse that it's tricky to get it right and make sure it isn't prickly if it's too short.

I get mine sugared in the spring summer and some of the fall but once winter hits i get lazy lol

i do trim in the winter though i hate it all long and nasty!

i trim....*there*

as for the legs, i let it all grow out during winter, then when it starts to get warm, i'm shaving it all off. when it grows back out in stubble, i'm using cold wax strips. it's surprinsingly less painful when you wax off short hair than long hair. when i first tried cold wax on my unshaved legs, it hurt like a motherf*cker. not that waxing off short hair s pleasant, but it's not as bad.

^you're braver than I am. wax will not touch my skin, unless it drips accidentally when putting a candle out. besides down there, i shave my chest, my face (have to look 'professional' for work), and trim my underarms. during warmer weather i'll trim or shave my calves - oddly when I ride my bike, my shoes or socks don't get caught in the pedal, or the derailleur - my leg hair does. OUCH.

^ You and I both. EVERYTHING comes off. You never know whose hands will end up on you in a dark room. :innocent:

haha, so true. the only thing i won't shave or wax completely off is my eyebrows, head, and arms quite obviously. everything else goes bye bye!

Amazing! :woot:

So when it comes to shaving my *hoo-hoo*, I shave in the direction of the hair. I don't know why... I read in Seventeen magazine to do that. Shaving in the direction of the hair causes in-grown hairs on the legs, but I haven't had that problem on my *hoo-hoo*. (Heck, I don't think I've had an in-grown hair on my legs either.)

i'm going to have to try that. ^ because i've almost had an ingrown due to shaving and, gosh, that hurts like a beeotch.
