The Indie / Emerging Designers mega thread

I came accross a bright new designer called MARIOS (LEFT TANKER)
who lives and works between Paris, Milan and Tokyo
and who seems to be quite inspired by the Japanese school of design....

However,
his work is very street oriented
and specifically influenced by the communist culture and aesthetics...
....which I find very interesting....

most of his clothes are multifunctional and quite well executed imho...

check him out here:

www.marioslefttanker.com

and find more about him here:
http://marios.rendez-vous-paris.com/

melt977, this is indeed very interesting and exciting. I love this multifunctional, transformable and becoming ...that you can play with lines, shapes and forms, that its never just one but multiple... thank you for introducing him! ...

^ Maltitudes ,I'm glad you liked it...

....I was very impressed myself...

....apparently he has a head store in Tokyo, called Marios Left Tanker, and - If I got it right - he associates with graphic designers, photographers and artists for a project called THE AMBULANT PROJECT which changes location and rotates the exhibitis every now and then...

There are stores around the world which carry his collections (London, Milan Florence, Paris, Kyoto, Melbourne, Hong Kong etc)....

it's really, really good....

And I love that there is a concept behind his projects that doesn't just apply to his clothes...

....if you see his catalogue you will know what I'm talking about (unfortunately I don't have a scanner)

Yes i love that to, the different arts extend into eachother, So it's really interesting hearing about this Ambulant project ...

I would love to see the catalogue, so yes it is a shame, but I noticed the Danish designer Mads Nørgaard on Marios Left Tanker's site to, so I'll drop by is boutique in Copenhagen next time I go, and i can properly get more information and catalogues there, if I'm lucky. Also Mads Nørgaard is often there himself, so I'll try and see if I can get to talk to him about these projects, because it's really interesting! He has before collaborated in project like these, I remember he was part of an art/design group called Superflex, but I can't remember if that was purely Danish, this Marios Left Tanker seems to be more global and crossing borders...

I've been a bit out of the loop at The Fashion Spot as of late, I'm an active reader here, or was during the winter months when studio life can become quite an indoor affair and it's here again.

I'll add Brooklyn studio girl Christian Joy, designer of Karen O's stage pieces, mostly for her Vivienne new school aesthetic, though she definitely posses her own unique voice.

Some of the construction techniques aren't quite my cup of tea, though the energy definitely compensates for 7th Ave. embodiements...

I'll read the thread before I contribute other names to the fun and I'll definitely be here at The Spot this winter, hoping to have a lot of wonderful times and meet new friends as well...

I'd love to see her with additional photography, though one of my favorites I'm almost positive will not be discussed here in previous form is Sherri Gallagher of Scandal House Designs in London, Ontario.

She designs an assortment of modern denim, knits and jersey with a Japanese influence, we were discussing her show on the 18th this morning...

I'm social friends with many obscure digital world design characters and Michel Delon as well, the director of the newly forming Detroit Fashion Incubator meant to mirror the Toronto Fashion Incubator 4 hours to the north, I'll be sure to mention many of them, though you've probably seen them around since they've become omnipresent on the digital pages of the world.

Maybe some of the Fashion Spot scene would love to eaves drop on a morning conversation I had with Sherri about 45 minutes ago at MySpace for fun since no one has returned since I posted here last evening!

I'm a bit new to photos here, and this is a wonderful opportunity to learn in five minutes while I adjust to the learning curve of The Spot!

Breaking News in Fashion Designers

A conversation with Scandal House owner and designer Sherri Gallagher from London, Ontario 10:30 A.M. EST

The IMAX Photo Shoot
I was feeling maybe some props might be nice for the future...

This is from a friend in Las Vegas who's close friend is John Galliano's Parisian makeup artist, a member of the Pat McGrath makeup art team!

Maybe some other date a buch of flat popcorn boxes in red, white and blue from an operating theater or the red and white buckets could be an idea...

Also, I definitely see a small garbage bag full of air pop poping corn with no butter or salt, the dry stuff being flung into the air for action shots...

I definitely understand scheduling and getting shots done and tight budget margins, though it might have been something for less than $20 and a lot of fun, plus you can always improve upon material you have created, maybe share the idea with your friend who shot the campaign and Adam Sachs!

Well, I'll be off for a bit or here and there!

Custom Jeans
Speaking of custom jeans, I've been moving the belt notches with the winter weight lifting schedule and I might be in something simple for the ride up since I'm going to order from New Jersey for the winter...

It's 200 yards of denim, classic medium blue and classic black, I do have 25 personal pairs planned for the days off or when studio sessions haven't been booked, about 8 white, 7 black and 7 blue...

Plus, I do have some designer denim as well, a dirty green tint and a strek medium blue wash...

International Orders
At this point I have an order booked without any solicitation or even a catalog of any type, it's for a friends wife, its a custom denim corset styled top!

You can choose from 2 hardwares in gold and silver, 2 suede lacings, more than 12 ribbons I'm giving away multiples for, 2 classic denims, 2 designer denims, 2 cuts, dozens of sizes, 12 thread colors, accent options and detailing options all for cost with no profit motive in place for about $136 or $146 depending on the books for the season, they change every 90 days...

It's a 6 hour or so booking and I'm doing a special on Ebay to kick everything off with an opening bid of $29.95 or $34.95 to have the cost around the value of materials and all free labor for the day!

Final Word on the Studio
I'm very excited about the developments, and in another 6 or 8 weeks there will be another detailed studio piece to add in the creation of a Victorian and Japanese informed and inspired wardrobe that's very casual American and European for weekend shopping and coffee in the boutique district with girlfriends!

Year 1 and Year 2
Year 1 will form an entire woman's wardrobe piece that is absolutely tailored to her body, personality, skin, hair and eye color; now that's hot!!!

Year 2 is men's, now that's evern more hot!!!

Yes, I'm involved in the indie scene as well, though as a custom clothier and student of design...

I can already tell from the past 10 minutes that the fashion spot will be lots of fun this winter, I'm hoping for a lot of great conversatoins about everyting from indie art and gallery scene, Gen Art alumni and away to Paris and the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture...!

I'm uncertain if it's been mentioned here, I'm a writer as well and I'm learning ettiquet and the feel of The Spot, it the info is too much, do private message me when you have the opportunity, I'm still learning how to empty the message box since most of my mail overloads most places I frequent, though it's always much fun!

Hmmm... It's been a bit quite here these passing weeks, though this past evening I attended the grand opening of the Detroit Fashion Incubator downtown...!!!

I'll definitely share some photography and stories since it's a resource for indie designers in the Michigan marketplace and beyond, with out-of-state and out-of-country designers being hosted in the showroom's future!
