I love the chandelier, all the fabulous molding, and the hide-upholstered chairs. Also, that is a killer TV, and I love how well it is integrated into the room. I would feel very comfortable in that room.

I wanted to share some pictures of my work-in-progress college apartment (so much cooler than the usual taped up posters & liquor bottle lined walls).

We sewed our own cushions for the window seat, mounted moulding & slid in records, and spray painted our coffee table. yay for being a poor college student & still having a chic house!

me with the bar stool i painted (my other 2 roommates have personalized ones as well.

I'll try to put up more pictures when my room & the rest of the house is done!

cute colour !

may i ask , what & where is the 'moulding' ?

the white underneath the records. My roommate/best friend refused to put any kind of adhesive on her record collection so we had to come up with a way to display them.

I'm not sure what its called but its a small (about an inch wide) 8 ft long plastic type of moulding (in the hardware section),with a groove in it that you slide the records in. Then, we nailed the moulding up on the wall. Voila!

Here are some interiors I'm taking inspiration from for my bedroom in my new apartment (all from flickr:(

(I want the wall with my bed on it to be this color!)

i'm kind of scared of Ikea after watching Fight Club!

but the pictures here are gorgeous!

The first room looks very habitable. The yellow walls and wooden floors gives it a very warming feel while the decor makes it very personal and puzzling.

I love the Louis XVI feel of this room, from Italian architech Carlo Mollino's apartment.

Can't believe I just now found this fabulous thread! Thanks all who posted beautiful pictures.

That is a gorgeous room. Perhaps a bit too bookheavy for my liking. Or the way the books are organized is not for me since I feel like there's no space to even set down a cup on a table! Also the light hanging looks like it's from Ikea  But the design and interesting details are superb.

Am going to paint my bookcases here really soon (hopefully!). I got the inspiration from this picture of Gia Coppola's working space (which MMA kindly found for me!) I have Ikea billy bookcases stacked horizontally one on top of the other (three of them so they are about 4 feet tall) and I am planning on painting back panel black but just the back panel. No interior sides or shelves, just the panel so that hopefully it will provide a bit more depth to my room, and make the books and decorations on the shelf pop!

Yes I agree about the Ikea lamp  Wouldnt have that but the wall itself I am very drawn to as I love the gold and definitely love all the books, though they do need to be arranged more delicately dont they?

Just wanted to say how interesting this thread is. Also, I was wondering whether any of you had some pictures of bedrooms designed with buddha sculptures, plants or a more oriental look to it (nargiles etc). I would like to get some ideas from these pictures.

Thank you!

TheKiwi - I love the white chairs, those look very comfortable with a very aesthetically pleasing use of a more traditional shape with new; the fabric and color and a certain something to the shape that's been changed. I like them a lot, definitely something I would look for I think for myself though in a darker color, maybe a dark garnet color.

I found this room while surfing Flickr and instantly fell in love with the bed.

I love the concept of the lights and steps on the bed, and hope that when I settle into a home or apartment (instead of moving so frequently for Uni) that I can construct something similar!

Have you done this yet?

I did exactly this decor theme with my library shelves and absolutely L-O-V-E the results! Books and objects are really showcased with the impact of the light and dark of the white shelves and the black wall. And I especially love how glass presents on the shelves! :flower:

^that's a great idea.. I've always wanted to either wallpaper or paint the back panels of my shelves.. I have SO many boring white shelves in my apartment with barely anything on them.

Would anyone like to share pics?!

These are ideas for Asian inspired floral accessories, as requested in a previous post.

Also please consider phalaenopsis orchids - used in a sparse presentation - makes for a wonderful oriental accent. This example shows orchids with magnolias.

My home is a combination of Asian - both modern and very ancient - paired with classic modern decor. I have found the key to using these accents is to always keep it sparse and simple. Less is more, less is more, less is more. :flower:
