apartmenttherapy

blocks of green ,
blocks of white and
blocks of black
black and white used as lines/borders (in the blinds and framing the windows)...

it's so clean ^_^ and also there are little accents of a rainbow of colours in the CD + book collection they have
i notice the same green and white is also used in textured fabrics..

Yeay i love the rug, but i have black carpet because i dont have a big budget and the floor beneath isnt really great, so i had to place an underfloor before i could do anything else on it and that would be so expensive.
The hardest thing is finding a sofa, i dont really know what color i want.
I love white, but i dont know if it would stay white for long lol.
I wanne get this, you can use this to make a bigger sofa but also as a fauteuil:
ikea.nl

And one of the walls in the living room is this color:
naamloos-3.jpg

the sofa is going against this wall

what are the other colours in that room ? i think they should all go together ^_^
you can choose a colour scheme... choose a few colours (like at apartmenttherapy, the one couple is using only green, black and white)

and then you can have pillows in colours you like
they will be 'accents'

sounds like you will be owning than renting your apartment.. quite nice .. can change whatever you like. in my case, i am renting :ninja: so i can't do any paint jobs or remove the beige wall and brown carpet, which i abhor lol ...

This is my tiny living room and one wall is that color and the rest just white.

I am renting, dont make enough money to buy^_^
But the guy im renting it from gave me permission to do whatever i want with it:lol: so im painting the whole place and new floor.

I also painted the tiles in the bathroom, they were ugly yellow and now my bathroom is beautiful whiteB)

tiling / tiles

Has anyone watched the recent shows for Design Inc. on HGTV?
It was a Mother's Day Special
A "modern bistro" theme ...

They used a tiling for one wall (for behind the oven/stove, etc)
It looks just like the top right in this picture
mosaictiles347254cd5.jpg

global-b2b-network

The thing is, it looked really rubbery and also a bit shiny
It was like bubble wrap, with the squares popping up
and it was very pliable.. just like a fabric
But they called it tiles / tiling

Does anyone have experience with this ? Is it really called tiling...
I thought tiling is like hard and cold .. linoleum tiles...

questions about lighting - proper watts for your lamp

one more question i have...

about lighting

i am looking at some lamps now and they sometimes say it requires a certain bulb (ie. a 60 watt bulb, a 6 watt bulb, etc.)
is it important to keep this in mind?

i bought a light bulb that is 150 watts.. so far i haven't found a lamp that is for a 150 w bulb. i did find some lamps with no suggestions on the kind of bulb

i wonder if it's dangerous or something
to put any light bulb in any lamp
because i might go to some secondhand shops to find a lamp ... all i need is the stand that will hold the bulb ^_^ not the actual lamp... (for an experimental project) :ninja:

ingetjuh lucky you . i think a white sofa would be fine with that blue wall since the blue is kind of strong

Yeay i think a white one is the best! and its a small space so keeping it light is better.

I've never payed any attention to the recommended watts and havent had any problems. I think it may be just a suggestion for what they think the best brightness would be for that style/shade so it doesn't blind you but still gives off enough light.

Well you shouldn't put a 150w bulb in a 100w socket. The energy won't be enough to light the bulb and there are technical complications that are above my head but I'm sure it's not a good idea. Putting a lower watt bulb in is fine. Once I got a lamp that said it required a 100w bulb and I put one in and it was SO bright. 100w is BRIGHT!

thanks for the replies
i do the super brightness for a reason :p

i guess i'll just go to the hardware store for a recommendation on a lamp instead of buying any random lamp , just in case
i'm trying to have the light "spread" as much as possible (as opposed to for example a spotlight, which is one spot of light) ... i think the lamp is called a reflector--and i saw there were a bunch of inexpensive reflectors..

also i have a halogen instead of an incadescent light

Putting a higher wattage bulb than is recommended can blow the socket, which is a pain to replace (think going to Lowe's), or it will just short out eventually and kill the light bulb itself. I don't think it's a fire hazard or anything, but I wouldn't recommend it. :flower:

It is a potential fire hazard, I believe ... there was a fire in my house before I bought it (can't tell, just heard the stories from the neighbors), and it started from an old lamp. I always have mine rewired, and the person doing the rewiring will give you wattage recommendations.

:o you guys mean even the -socket- has specific guidelines for how many watts...
hmm a bunch of things to consider for lighting
i'll just go to the hardware store then

no no, not the socket itself. But you plug a lamp into a socket where it draws energy from. So if you have something that can only draw 100W trying to draw more energy from the socket than it can handle, it will affect the socket.

Thanks !

Very Important to know
My landlord lent me his lamp actually.. I'm using a bulb that does 50-100-150 watts, so I'd need a lamp with a 3-way switch so I can get all the way to 150 w ... But I will just send it back to him since I don't know if 150 is too much for that lamp

I love the high wallls! I'm not fond of the green, though. You see it everywhere nowadays (Belgium), and I mean everywhere.

I love the structure of the house below. The crescent-shaped wall extends from the ground floor to the top floor.
