I've never tried MAC makeup before, but I'm tempted to now. I'm interested in buying a tinted moisturiser for oily skin. What's the best product to buy? I want light to medium coverage.

the select tint with the sheer pressed powder. both are light coverage, so the two together would be medium. and since the tint is a liquid, you need a powder to keep the skin matte if you have oily skin

Inaya, your friend's makeup looks flawless! Love it.

I have an event to attend and I was considering going to my local MAC counter and getting my makeup done for it. I'm a bit nervous as I don't want anything too dramatic, perhaps a smoky eye paired with a nude lip...any tips on what I should ask for, color recommendations etc.? :flower:

well, if you don't want anything dramatic, the true smokey eye is. it would be black eye shadow, so it's dark.

but you can tell them you want to kind of twist it around and do different colors for the smokey eye. use bronze colors to make a smokey look. it gives the effect, but not as dramatic as using black.

Thanks lizzyb831 for the advice!:flower: I'll pop down to my nearest MAC store and try them out.

Just got a quick question...i had bought a couple of the pigments and when i opened the little box that came with it and there was a folded up paper that listed colors that shouldnt be used on the eye...was just curious because i thought pigments were meant for the eye...where the hell else are you going to put them...i disregard that message but i was just curious as to if anyone had figured out what that meant or why its in there

pigments are a multi-purpose professional product. they can be used on the body, with nail polish, mascara, etc. so some things have certain ingredients that could irritate the eyes.

I have combination skin and I didnt like the moisturizer it made me way shiny even with Studio Fix and or Blot Powder.
I think the best thing to try is Blot Powder, my best friend NEVER wears make up she has flawless skin but she bought blot powder and loves it.
The prices arent too bad so if you feel lucky try it, they have a good return policy.

^ Return policy is related to the store where the MAC counter is, unless you're at a MAC store ...

Recently I had a problem with a lipstick I bought at Dillards, and I swear to you, I was headed to Dillards but my car (which is very smart) drove straight to Nordstrom's and they took care of it with no problems ;)

One time the cap on my MAC scrub broke. The MAC SA at Dillards removed the broken piece from the opening and handed it back to me. I said I wanted a cap that wasn't broken, so *she removed one from a fresh tube and screwed it onto mine.* My jaw dropped ... so what exactly is she going to do with the fresh tube that now has no cap??? It was like she was getting her jollies from giving me the absolute minimum customer service, which is probably in Dillards' mission statement :innocent:

Customer service savy cars.. what will they think of next  :p
I got Avant Gold medium mineralize skinfinish yesterday.
I know you guys have had this for a while in the US..but MAC here is slooow.. it wasn't even displayed yet.
Got the great neutral Half 'n Half - Cremed-pink au lait (Amplified Creme)
Also bought A Muse LE 'Charm Factor' lipstick - a peached coral with frost (Lustre) as MACs site describes it..
I'm desperately looking for the 'right' pinky-peachy-coral-melony-color but haven't found it yet..my lips are tricky.. I can only try 1-2 lippies at a time ( the removal of one causes my lips to 'flush' and the more I try the less I really trust the colour I see on my mouth ) ..so it takes time

I just tried something the other day, i wet a q-tip (uk people thats a cotton bud) and put on eyeshadow in HONEYLUST all wet and it stayed on all night long despite dancing and sweating...PLUS it looked amazing. Sparkly yet more vibrant.

I notice the difference as well when I applied HONEYLUST w. my finger instead of a brush.. the brush applied eyeshadow was very light and sheer almost vs the finger applied was more saturated and as you say sparkly and vibrant. :flower: I haven't noticed this with the MAC velux eyeshadows.. I guess the finish (is it frost?) that makes it a bit tricky.

What liquid foundation from MAC do you recommend. I have combination skin, I want good coverage, but I don't want it to look cake-y.

Thanks!

Hanne, for corals I've done Skew, and just bought Eager ... tried either of those? :flower: (Eager might be too bright for you though ... it's a pure coral, but Lustre so not quite as intense as it looks in the pkg ...)

PS I owe a lot to my car

Skew and eager are on my to-try-list .. :flower:
If you like the same blushy-leaning-towards-peachy-coral-melony-color that I do ta-ta, you should try Trish McEvoys lipgloss in Babydoll it's a bit like MACs Tinted Lipglass in Lychee Luxe / Lustreglass in Wonderstuck only much much prettier...and the closest I've come to the perfect color..

^ Thanks for the recommendation, Hanne :flower: I've never tried any Trish McEvoy, though I read her book & thought some of the brushes looked interesting ... now I'm going to be sucked in to a whole new makeup line

I really like the two MAC lipglosses I got from this summer's special edition with the special packaging that was so great ... both colors are wonderfully sparkly :woot:

I ran out and grabbed Viva Glam VI l/s. It's lovely and wearable: my lips, but BETTER.

Viva Glam VI is amazing. Another versatile neutral along the same lines as V, but it's more cool-toned, I think.

Woho, Mac Cosmetics has finally arrived in Norway :woot: Can't wait to buy Russian Red Lipstick, I've heard so many great things about it.

Oh my, when I visit this forum, I realize how small Norway really is
