The MAC Makeup Thread

Trista,

i wish i had a CCO nearby! i forget where the nearest one is. i think my sister went to one.

i love that brighter blue pearl part of Deep Truth, i love how MAC shadows have different colored pearls. i cant stand super chunky silvery shimmers in other brands. i saw Beauty Marked in person and its quite pretty :) i cataloged the color in my head to consider purchasing if i want something dark lol

my sister who is more tan has Black Tied but still wants Carbon. my other sister uses Urban Decay Oil Slick everyday, they both blend it in nicely but i think even if its a used sparingly on me it would still be quite stark on my skin without any purple/burgundy tones to soften. also i think purple/burgundy compliments my neutral-pink undertones. i only wear black liners on occasion and usually only on top then MAC Teddy on the bottom to bring warmth back in.

i like the round shape of the 231, it looks like it would work really well for bottom liner ^_^

speaking of Dazzleglasses and different colored pearls. i love the violet pearls in Baby Sparks, it makes it a unique pale pink. i think this color shows up best on lips with not much pigmentation, mine are already pale pink anyways. i tried on Funtabulous but it was super dramatic for me, kind of as much as a red lip would. for me it would have to be paired with subtle eyes or saved for Halloween when you can go crazy. Extra Amps is quite pretty too

in high school i tried on my best friend's Oh Baby Lipglass and it was actually really nice on me surprisingly! considering how stark pale i was back then it gave me a summery warm look. Goldy Rocks is interesting but i rarely go for the gold but i maybe consider since its summer. i think it would work nicely for summer looks.

If you are looking for a CCO, there's a website called Outlet Bound where you can find the outlet you are looking for and see if it's at an outlet mall near you. I am lucky since I am fairly close to one, only an hour and a half to two hour bus ride away.

I don't really do a whole lot of blacks-for my darks, I prefer Deep Truth or Contrast or something like that, as I can get the desired effect in a shade that is more flattering to my eyes. I do have UD's Zero though in both eyeliner and eyeshadow form, and it's great to have as it is more blendable and it's comparable to a good frost or a veluxe pearl. The 231 does work great for lower liner. I tend to use either that, the 212, or a 210 in a pinch, but for some looks I do like my 219 dupe.

I honestly think that Like Venus would be a much better Dazzleglass for you. I am a huge fan of Funtabulous, it is amazing in the summer as it actually has some pigmentation, but then again I have to do a brighter lip as I have darker hair and darker brows. You may like the Euroistocrats DG's, Via Veneto is going to be more of a lilac as opposed to a bright fuschia-purple.

^ thanks! youre a doll. that is a great site!

i think i saw Like Venus at the MAC store but didnt swatch it. im not sure on the red pearl but i should give it a try anyways cuz 'you never know till you try' ^_^

i didnt pick up Funtabulous even though i admire the color for its vibrancy, also thought some other DG colors are gorgeous in general(so attractive in the tube) even if its not for me :D. i really dont wear bright lips because i always choose to focus on eyes more than lip. i like to wear pale pink/same color as my lip so when it does wear off throughout the day i dont look very different. its more practical when im too busy reapply lipgloss/fuss over makeup like at work or school. Funtabulous sounds like it would be gorgeous on you, its definitely a color that plays off dark hair really well. thank you for the Via Venento suggestion, i do love my lilacs :flower:

See I do bright eyes AND lips at the same time, but bright cheeks? Very rarely. I have the Devil blush from Manish Arora which is quite lovely, but super bright. I have to be very, very lighthanded with it. I do like some more pale lips on occasion, but it is very rare. I have 9 of the Dazzleglasses and I find that the brighter colours get way more love.

I do have to try and force myself to do more bronze/neutral eye looks though for the summer, which I hate, but it means I could just take a jar of pigment, two eyeshadows, and Belightful, along with 3 Dazzleglasses.

^ true true for me too when i had dark hair i could do two brights + one subtle.
* bright eyes and lips with subtle cheeks
* or bright eyes and bright cheeks with subtle lips.
* or bright cheek and lips with subtle eye(like only mascara or only mascara & MAC Teddy)

right now since i have light hair i prefer to keep it to one bright at a time and very rarely do i go for a bold cheek.

i prefer to only do bright on cheek or lip if its sheer so like Pink Swoon Sheertone blush or Flusterose Lustreglass. neither of which are even considered super bright but that should give you an idea of how colors show up on me! my lips pick up sheer medium colored glosses well, its especially visible in pictures like i ate a popsicle or something

speaking of bronzy looks, ive been fighting those for a while. i dont find it that appealing to start wearing that again but since its summer this is probably the best time to give those another shot. i do love my neutrals though :)

I am hoping to swap for a jar of Sunpepper pigment, but at the same time, I have a good portion of Jardin Aires left, plus half a jar of Helium and then quite a few bronze/gold eyeshadows. Figure summer would be a good time to work with them, and get some usage out of them.

I have Pink Swoon and it shows up very vividly on me as well. I have to be very careful with pinks, although I find that Tippy looks really good right on the apple of the cheek with On A Mission on the cheekbone. Blush tends not to show up on my cheeks most of the time, unless it is way bright. I just figured out the macro feature on my camera though so hopefully that changes.

Does anybody know whether Mac will produce anymore of those limited edition lip balm in the pot ( the ones that only come in Summer)? I live on that thing :(( !

here's a throwback because i love these photos of Mona Johannesson

i love the eyemakeup :)

I loved those Barbie looks...too bad that I wasn't into MAC when it came out.

Tendertones are not coming back this year, however in July they are bringing out a new tinted lip balm in a squeeze tube. They also have Tinted Lip Conditioners, which have a smaller colour range, that are available year-round. If you have a CCO near you, I would try them because Tendertones don't really sell well.

i loved the Barbie ads but didnt care for any of the Barbie packaging. one thing i dont like about LE Collections is that seasons later you wonder how old your makeup is and you try to think back to when it was launched  then im like damnnnn! granted i rarely do massive hauls but i do have some older stuff like discontinued shimmer powders(not MAC tho) that i still use because they havent gone bad and i cant find dupes :(

the people who have Tendertones tend to(lol rhyming) love them. i dont like sticking my finger in pots so even when they have nice colors like Hello Kitty Pink Fish i just get put off by the pot. id be too lazy to carry/use a lip brush every time too.

i have the regular squeeze tube lipbalm but people think im a weirdo because i really dont need lipbalm. it mostly stays in my purse, i do find it useful for removing stickyness DG's leave if i remember to use it. my lips rarely ever get dry unless im sick but in that case i usually need something stronger. but balms are great for kisses ^_^ the vanilla is damn sexy

the tinted squeeze tube balms sound like a great alternative for windy days or lazy face days like camping etc where you shouldnt be seen primping. its just a harmless...TINTED... balm thats gon make me soo purdy ;)

I'm glad there is someone else out there that isn't a fan of sticking their fingers in pots of balmy stuff. I got the hello kitty pots and barely use them because of the pot situation, same with the tendertones. It just isn't practical, if you're out and about and can't wash your hands first, I don't exactly want to get on a bus and then be putting my fingers on my mouth. The germs!

That's why I always carry hand sanitizer! I honestly would get Popster TLC if it gets to the CCO, but I don't typically use pots because I have longer nails. I typically do always carry a brush of some sort though. I tend not really to use a balm unless I am at home, because I don't need or sometimes want to have a ton of colour then. I'll usually be doing housework so makeup is kept at a minimum.

See I am a packaging junkie. I would love to have the bronzer cases for Belle Azure and Tantress, plus the Diana Ross beauty powder case...the oldest item in my collection is a jar of Marigold glitter. I also have a few palettes from 2004. Gem Eyes may not be the most exciting, as all the colours are permanent, but it's a green-eyed girl's must-have. (Seedy Pearl, Crystal, Shale, Trax, Beauty Marked, Parfait Amour) This was BEFORE Veluxe Pearls, mind you.

sometimes i dont carry a purse either so i got my lipgloss in my pocket and im set...i can reapply without a mirror :D but as you guys know i stick to easy colors. supposedly its fascinating to watch.

i hate trying to balance pot, pot cap, lip brush *i just wanna throw it up in the air and say i give up!* lol im being dramatic obviously but sometimes the elements are against you especially when its windy, your purse is falling down, ppl staring at you @_@ wondering why you just cant stick your dirty finger in your balm pot like normal ppl.

i havent used Studio Fix powder since '06 but i still have the empty compact for a mirror if in my purse. im a sucker for pretty mirrored compacts too. im always like should i get it should i get it just cuz its pretty! but i havent used powder since...'06 and i hate carrying blush compacts becaue ppl borrow mirrors and end up dropping them, crushing the blush/powders

i heard Shale has some purple in it which is cool and Parfait Amour is very pretty ive seen many times. but i stick to my UD Asphyxia for lavendar :)

And my purse is bigger and heavier than the average high schooler's backpack-I have a big makeup case, a brush case, a PRO palette, a couple other palettes, loose items, a pair of shoes...you get the picture. I like my purse to have the absolute essentials for life.

As far as compacts, I had a Hello Kitty mirror from many years ago (not the MAC one) that ended up giving up the ghost a couple years ago. Shame, as I loved it. I then had one from BBW that was nice, as it was a glossy material covering it and it was softer. Now I use one that a friend of mine got me for Christmas, which is a big metal one and definitely a statement piece. Like I said though, I would do anything to get some of the older compacts.

Shale definitely does have purple, it's a lot more of a grey-purple than a lilac. Still pretty though. I was talked out of Parfait Amour by my old MAC guy, who suggested I get Creme de Violet instead-and while I am glad I have CdV, I really want a pan of Parfait Amour.

I used to think I had a massive problem because I take all sorts of madness out with me. Tons of make up, wipes, a jumper even if its hot, glasses, sunglasses, salt (!), two books...I just don't like to be without.

You're so lucky not to need to wear foundation trista, I can't even go to the local shops without a full face of foundation and concealer.

My foundation-free days are going to be numbered though...trust me. I don't really wear it only because my skin darkens a couple shades in the summer, and I like to have the look of tanned skin and I don't want to be buying multiple shades of foundation to have to mix every day.

Part of the reason I take so much is because I have to bus it everywhere, and if I get the job that I am applying for it would be three busses most of the time, at least an hour and a half-and I have to look perfect and keep myself occupied.

i feel the same way about foundation even though i dont tan...i just cant be bothered if its not going to be perfect. mixing colors is a pain if your in a rush or discovered is not so perfect after its already on. im just not satisfied enough with what i see out there foundation wise. some people are lucky when they tan their skin gets more even...i feel the opposite :innocent:therefore i avoid tanning which is not hard at all.

when i travel long distance like in a car i bring my makeup to touch up. usually those are special trips with lots of cameras so i gotta be camera ready! ;)

For me, it's harder for my face to tan, but it does tan, so it's darker than my neck but lighter than my body. Such a pain...

I don't really go on trips, but if I were to I would be able to consolidate almost everything into my Caboodles traincase. I have the second-largest model and while it is great for storing the stuff I don't use everyday, and I could carry most of my collection in there. As I finish pot-form eyeshadows I am trying to convert to pro pans, as it will be good for the case. It's perfectly sized in the drawers to fit MAC palettes and blushes, which I love. I would have all my brushes in a little case, and then the lip products would be in cosmetic bags or Ziploc bags as well in the bottom. Ditto for eyeliner and mascara and that kind of stuff...

Well, I didn't wear a spot of foundation until I was 23, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? My age seems to have a lot to do with my need to wear more slap, at 25 I could walk around with none on and not feel bad. At 30 my skin is far more blotchy, red and with large pores, hateful I tell you, hateful!

what would you guys recommend for a mac starter kit? i'm just getting started out with my makeup collection.
