The MAC Makeup Thread

^ i personally like mac's eyeshadow/lip glasses/blush. i didnt tried them all but for the eyeshadow the texture is just amazing....
but im not too sure about the lipstick and foundation... the foundation have wide range but people usually give me a wrng shade and for the lipstick... i dunno i cant imagine it on me for some reason...

This might be the dumbest question...but I thought I'd ask it here. Why do people like MAC? What is it about them that people go crazy about? I'm not critisizing...just really curious about MAC.

the color range (from foundation to eyeshadows to lipstick, you won't have such a wide choice with any other brand)

how is the mineralize skinfinish natural powder? I want to get it in the light shade but I am worried about the price because I am unsure of it.

I personally prefer my Select Sheer pressed powder. I think the problem is that there aren't that many shades of skinfinish natural, and so Medium was too light for me and Medium Dark a bit too dark. The powder provides more coverage than Select Sheer though,so if you can get a good shade match then go for it.

Hmm, what shade would work for me? I am buff in colorstay and about NC 20 right now. So, would the light be too light for me if they don't have a large shade selection in the MSF natural?

I am obsessed with the eyeshadows/pigments...the color options are endless and the color doesn't fade. Thats why I like MAC.

^ i believe you can buy them either at the pro stores (which are few and far between) or by calling 1-800-866-6464 (you don't get the pro discount though, of course). i think you need to have a pro card to buy online. :flower:

anyone can go into a pro store and buy as long as they can pay. only the online and ordering stuff is for real pros only

I just depotted some of my eyeshadows and popped them into my new pro palette, along w/ some shadows that I picked up at the pro store yesterday. The process was a bit messy, but I am glad I did it. I think I am going to go get another palette today, I have more I need to depot! Plus you can turn in the empty pots and get free lipstick :ninja:

I just saw two of the four holiday eye-shadow palettes coming out in October and they are beautiful. They are like last years, six square pans in the square compact. The outside was a very Victorian/Juicy Couture look, hard to describe.

The colors were beautiful.

They will have: Warm eye pallette, Cool eye palette, Metallic eye palette & Smoked eye palette.

i'm looking forward to the McQueen collection (has it's own thread here) but i'm still behind on purchases from the current collections. not a huge problem, i know!, but with all this LE stuff, the thought of it disappearing can make you a little regretful.

what i really want:

  • 30 Lash (Individuals)
  • Plush Lash - Plushblack
  • 187 Duo Fibre Brush
  • Pigment - Silver Fog
  • Pigment - Smoke Signal
  • Powder Blush - Emote
  • Lipstick - Fleshpot (this is a Pro only shade, which will be a pain to get....)

any thoughts on any of these items? maybe it would help me pare this list down...

^ i saw it!!! it sounds sooo fab~! and im excited for the holiday collection too :)
btw you guyz recommend hyper real or mineralize skn finish foundation (cant remember the exact name?) for a nw 20 person with quite sensitive skin?

My friend who works for MAC says their newest mascara sucks hard and they are being forced to really promote it....
He says he feels terrible making people buy it!

^Yeah, I went in to a MAC store last week and the salesgirl tried to push it on me. I told her I just bought a new tube of Diorshow, and she said that the MAC mascara is supposed to be a knock-off of Diorshow.

^ whats wrong with it? I actually bought it and liked it. I have used diorshow for over 5 years now and this one is very similiar IMO.

if you bring in empty pots you get free lipstick? what pots.?
sorry for my dumbness.

Yes, as part of the Back to Mac program, you can receive a free lipgloss, lipstick or eyeshadow for every 6 empty plastic or glass containers that you bring back in to the store. Pots are the plastic trays that the regular eyeshadows come in. I take them out of the trays that they are sold in to get free products and b/c they take up less room now that I have the shadows in pro palettes. If you need a tutorial on how to take them out, let me know and I will post one.

From maccosmetics.com:

Back to M·A·C Program

As a part of a pro-environment commitment to recycle/reuse waste, M·A·C recycles its primary packaging through the Back to M·A·C Program. M·A·C encourages our customers to return primary packaging of many M·A·C products to M·A·C counters. This packaging is then forwarded to appropriate recycling centers. By returning six (6) M·A·C primary packaging containers to a M·A·C counter, you will receive a free M·A·C Lipstick of your choice [except for the Viva Glams]. This is how we thank you for helping the environment through recycling.

Most primary packaging of M·A·C products is accepted as Back to M·A·C "currency." M·A·C does not accept the following as a part of the program:
  • Secondary packaging of any sort [paper box, plastic/cellophane wrapper, shopping bags, etc.]
  • Samples [sample containers, special/trial size products for promotional/seasonal kits]
  • Cosmetic applicators/tools [disposables, puffs, sponges, scissors, spatulas, swabs, sharpeners, tweezers, curlers]
  • Accessories [bags, belts, makeup cases, lashes, Blot Film]
In addition to our "Back to M·A·C Program," M·A·C uses minimal packaging and recycled paper to paperboard packaging in our offices, manufacturing and distribution facilities. Vegetable-based inks are used for printing whenever possible. At M·A·C we share your concerns about the environment and we are continually looking for ways to address those concerns while providing our customers with complete product satisfaction and safety.

^ i should do this! i don't have a pro store nearby though, so i'd have to order the palette (although that would be great because there's plenty of other pro items i've been wanting :innocent: ). aside from the benefit of recycling, i'd really love to have all my MAC shadows at hand, in the same place. i tend to look around forever for each one when they're singles. i have a bunch of quads though, which makes it a bit easier.

i've been pretty interested in the Plushlash (MAC's newest mascara). i've heard good things about it but haven't seen it in person. i haven't had much luck with MAC's mascaras in the past though - too much smudging and flaking. it's sad because i love everything else MAC. :(
