The MAC Makeup Thread

I don't know what exactly, but don't be surprised if most all lip products go up. Also some brushes might go up. MSF's will probably go up as well.

Any users out there?

I like what it says, but does it come out all pinky/ glittery or just light reflective?

Are there any non glittery but light reflecting creams or alternatives to this??

any help much appreciated ^_^

Strobe cream isn't glittery at all. It's got a pink/gold reflection.

I can't wait for the HK collection, although I will probably get the accessories only. I really want the doll and the bracelet.

Sadly I will not be able to get any of the Hello Kitty stuff after all...I just lost my job and I won't even be able to afford a lipglass, let alone the three things I was wanting.

Sorry to hear that, Trista! Hopefully you can find a new job soon.

My MUA gave me a sample of Base Light paint to play around with - any application tips/what brush should I use? I'm going to be using it as a base under my normal eyeshadow but I haven't ever used paint before so I'm a bit unsure.

Don't forget, the HK stuff isn't out till feb 09, I'm sure you'll be able to get a job before then. Sorry to hear you've hit hard times, especially at such a difficult time of year. Hopefully things will be short lived. Chin up!

I am trying...I'm doing this for Hello Kitty!

Before I found out about this mess though, I did go up to the CCO and got a backup of Flash-n-Dash and then Viz-a-Violet pigment, and then I bought Mutiny pigment for a friend of mine (although I am tempted to keep it for myself and make her a scarf). They had just gotten new stuff, including 213, 231, and 224 brushes, among others. I want the 231 and I did put it on my Christmas list...it is the perfect sorta brush for shadows like Bright Sunshine where it is more effective to apply a little at a time.

Viz-a-Violet is amazing though. The closest colour comparison-and a pretty darned close match-is Beautiful Iris eyeshadow. This is a must for any purple lover but if you aren't really into purples, or don't do them often, you can skip it.

I don't usually like a lot of the couture stuff-I find that the payoff on the lipsticks and lipglasses are not what I would hope of for a MAC product. I have Witty lipglass from last year and it's too sheer for my liking. I may eventually get one if it ends up at the CCO next summer. I have never tried the Sheer Mystery powders, but I am hoping that everything is good on the job hunt so that I can get the HK one.

I wish the metal urge e/s didn't crease so bad :( I bought verdigris and it's a gorgeous colour but just doesn't last and creases like mad.
prices are down slightly in the UK, with the VAT reduction
and debenhams (where my mac counter is) has had 10% off all cosmetics for a while, needless to say, I've bought so much because of it.

I totally skip anything cream-based...I have oily skin and my lids tend to be a little oily, and even dry shadows can crease on me. Have you tried using your Metal-X with UDPP or another comparable eyeshadow primer? That may help, although I dunno how much.

can anyone recommend a good mac foundation for dry skin, that isn't too heavy?

Trista, this might be a stupid question, but did you refer to the Monogram collection when you said 'couture stuff' ? I'm not sure you were or might be talking about something else.

Either way, I got one of the lipsticks from my mother. The color is named Identity. The packaging looks really beautiful and the color looks nice, but I'm not as enthusiastic as I was about the 'Red' she said glosses. There is something about the brush which I can hardly explain in English. Err...let's just say I think this brush is stiff and I find it difficult to put on. Wouldn't recommend it.

Yep, I refer to all those collections as the "couture" collections, since they have the higher price point. I have a very similar complaint about the applicator for the lipglasses in the couture collections. Way too stiff, and too hard to apply the product with. Red She Said was different because the Dazzleglasses always have the brush-tip applicator and not the doe foot sponge tip.

Trista- I've been using concealer as primer as I ran out of UDPP, but when I manage to replace it, I'll give that a shot. I have really dry eyelids so that might just work :)

I've actually heard that Too Faced's Shadow Insurance is better for dry eyelids, whereas UDPP is great for more oily. Concealer is great as a base-if you're not doing anything elaborate, or if you're just doing something basic.

There's a few ways:

The main way is to use it with a 212, and then just pat it on under my lower lashes. I use it that way with the Reflects glitters. I also sometimes use it very carefully as a top liner with a 209.

Another way I use it is I will use a little bit of a glitter like Reflects Gold in the crease, applied with a brush like a 231. You want to use a brush like that, as it is denser, so it will not get as much glitter trapped in the brush.

For some more festive looks, I will use a little bit of glitter mixed with a lighter pigment like Jardin Aires, with some Helium (Vanilla would be a good one in this bunch too) and then use it as a thing to put over blush. I have a few batches of mixed pigment and this is a good one-but you have to go light on the glitter. You can also use a blush brush with a teensy bit in order to get a nice look.

For the lips, I have a bunch of disposable lip brushes, and what I will do is brush a bit of glitter on top of a lipglass.

Of course they are also nice to use for more costume-y looks. My halloween look was a mask and I got a good amount of use out of Gold, 3D Silver, Reflects Gold, and so forth.

On a separate note, if you love pigments, you need Silver Fog. I find that I like the pearl finish pigments a lot more than the frosts, because the pearl-form is denser and less chunky, I get more colour saturation, and I can create some interesting looks with it. Golden Lemon, unfortunately, is now a pro-only...however, it is a very chunky pigment. Great colour, but not so easy to work with.
