The MAC Makeup Thread

I just bought an empty Pro Colour Pallatte X 15. Is there a place where I can find blush and eyeshadow refills that are not as expensive as the ones MAC themselves are selling?

sometimes on ebay, but you need to be careful, there are a lot of fakes.

You can buy Lip Erase at PRO stores only:( They are axing a lot of PRO products-most of the matte pigments, as well as the paint sticks and Chromacakes that go with them, a ton of CCB's, all the pot form eyeshadow and blush, at least in the PRO shades, the loose Beauty Powders...it's absolutely insane.

Oh, and another testament to the awesomeness that is Bright Future: not only is it the best finish for a yellow shadow, but I've already used a lot of it. I'm probably going to hit pan on it by the end of the summer.

Does Mac have a lipcolor similar to what was used here?

^ I'm sure they must ... the only really pale shade I have is Syrup, but I believe it's pinker (but then everything tends to be pinker on me).

Just wanted to mention that I finally checked out cosmeticsdatabase.com, where you can check the toxicity of your products. I was absolutely shocked to find out that MAC green cleanser rates a 10 of 10  You can get nail polish (Revlon, not some wacko brand) that's only a 3, for comparison purposes. I guess this is my last bottle ... and I won't be going 'back to MAC' as often now. I found this site quite fascinating ... oh, and Diorshow is a 9. There wasn't a lot of good news for my favorite products :innocent: But you can bet I will be mentioning it the next time I'm at a MAC counter.

As far as the lipstick goes I almost would say Vegas Volt but very lightly patted on with a lip brush.

I haven't used any of MAC's skincare...for my face wash, I do use the Patricia Wexler one, but after I finish this bottle up I am wanting to try Murad's pomegranate cleanser. I am a junkie for anything pomegranate and my skin is picky with some larger pores-apparently it is very pore-tightening. I would avoid gels anyways, I'm cursed with combination skin.

Mac skincare is ok but nothing great. It seems like it will moisture or cleanse or whatever it says it'll do, but no real long term benefits. I do really like the fast response eye cream though. I never get enough sleep when I have class and its the only eye cream I've tried to help with the puffiness.

I'm going to check out style warriors right now, I think getting Night Manoeuvres since I'm obsessed with dark brown shadows and finding the perfect shade. Maybe the bright yellow and purple to add to my collection of pretty colors I never use, and prabably the purple nailpolish. I'm curious about the leg spray, I've been looking for a bronzer that doesnt come off on clothes forever.

^ I guess they feel like their audience is really young, or uninterested in skincare? I think they're wrong about that ...

What kind of purple is the nail polish?

I did not try the Skinsheen because I was wearing full-length sequin leggings last Tuesday, but it seems to be fairly non-transferrable which would be nice-that's a problem that I have. I don't have much of a use for a leg bronzer though because I have never even been near a nightclub and I don't have any fancy events I go to-and my legs are the darkest part of my body.

I would skip Night Manuevers if I were you, to be honest. It's kind of chalky and it's probably easily dupeable. I would get VG and BF though-VG because it is a PRO shade in cute packaging, and Bright Future for obvious reasons. The purple polish is definitely going to sell out, it is a gorgeous purple! A lot of the girls at the store were wearing it. I hopefully will get to have a better look at the bronzers and such on Wednesday when I go to pick up my quad.

The purple is a darker, richer purple. I didn't get to see a whole lot of it but it is more of a royal purple, and it is frosty. Love & Friendship was a lavender-this is definitely not. It's got a hint of the magenta to it though-I would say it's a few steps more purple than Fierce & Fabulous lipglass-and it will be amazing for the summer. Purple is definitely here to stay, that's for sure.

When it comes to skincare, I have a feeling that they are just trying to do the basic items that can get people by, but I honestly have so many needs, the newest of which being anti-aging since I don't want to look a day older than the 21 I am. It doesn't seem to be as huge a priority-however I read on Temptalia that they are coming out with Studio Moisture Tints, which are SPF 15 tinted moisturizers.

^ Thanks for the purple description ... I'll have to check it out. I have a Chanel purple, but if this is toning magenta, it's different from what I have, which is definitely a blue purple.

I think it's a real missed opportunity for them, not offering skincare ... and it's not like being owned by Lauder, they can't access some real expertise. I would definitely consider their products because of b2m. As long as they're not horribly toxic, that is ...

I would love to see them redo the skincare, but that would be a huge undertaking. They would probably need to cut down on some of the LE stuff. I am interested in the tinted moisturizer though, only because that's the kind of thing that is up my alley. I think they assumed that people who use MAC use either EL or Clinique for most of their skincare. The one thing I have used, and liked, was the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator, which was lovely on my somewhat acne-prone skin. In reality though, skincare is a thing that MAC could really work on. If they had a vegan version of Strobe cream, I'd be all over that. (I'm not vegan but it has some sort of animal fat if I recall correctly)

I definitely am interested in that polish, but I have so many already and money is kinda scarce (and my job interview isn't for a week and a half). I mean, I do try and get my nails done twice a week just to ensure that I use stuff up! The one polish I really wish I had gotten-make that three-were Plasma Blu, Phosphor, and Peppermint Patti. I was talked out of PP by a friend who is anti-MAC polish, but I could have used it:( Figure I'll try and find an OPI dupe.

im looking for a sort of color chart for the mac pigments, the website only features the new colors plus they are photoshopped so they are not really an actual photograph of the pigment. anyone knows by any chance how can i get something like that?

Probably your best bet will be to google the name of the pigment-for example, "MAC All Girl pigment" and see what people have as far as swatches go.

so is style warrior already in MAC freestanding stores, or is it just online atm?

It should be all stores, I heard that the release date did get moved up to the 20th. It was definitely at Nordie's today although the counter I went to thought that the Rose is a Rose quad got pushed back again-but well, I am the proud owner of it. It's a good quad if you like simple, feminine looks. It's not anything really revolutionary but I have to say, it's worth it for Solar White and Seeds of Love alone (which both have amazing texture). Petal Worship is a lighter, pinker lustre version of Creme de Violet, with silver pearl. Contrast is permanent but at least it's coherent to the rest of the collection. You'll love it if you love quads, love girly colours, and if you want a quad that can easily give you a ton of looks, both in itself and mixed with your collection. You'd probably want to skip this if you hate girly colours, if you are just buying it for one colour, or if you already have dupes for all of it. I'd say at least take a look though.

I am really wanting Sun Rush Lustre Drops though...

hm...i'll have to check it out this weekend. the more i look at it online, the less appealing or "new" it becomes. i really think bright future is my only absolute buy...the polishes are wearing themselves out and i have this horrible habit of buying LE stuff just because it's LE, and it just sits there. the blue polish from solar future (forget the name atm) has sat unopened for what...a year now? really sad.

i like the direction of some of the lipglasses, but from the swatches they look way too glittery for my taste.

we'll see what i come back with.
