The MAC Makeup Thread

goregeous, i wouldnt bother getting ny of the limited edition skincare stuff from mac. i think you are better off getting department store skincare items that are permanent.

I am with you there on avoiding the MAC skincare. I would definitely go for Korres or Murad, a brand that is more natural.

in terms of MAC skincare, i tried their microderm stuff. the bits are really fine, which beat a lot of drugstore stuff. and it leave my skin smooth without over scratching it.

^Anything with "crystals" (that's what they call it on the website ) scratch your skin. No matter how small they are.

Exactly, any exfoliator will scratch the skin. It's just a matter of the size and abrasiveness of the crystals-some of them can be really jagged while others, nice and round.

Does anyone who has been a longtime follower of MAC know how frequently the F&F sales occur? I noticed that the one prior the the June F&F was in January so I was just wondering if it might be another 6 months before the next one occurs...

I'm wondering whether I should try and wait until the next F&F to buy a bunch of stuff or if I should try and get some products when I'm in the States in late August.

Thanks in advance! :flower:

Typically they are twice a year. I would get some items-the ones you really want-now, and then wait on most of the rest. It depends on how long your wishlist is though-I find that if you're looking for brushes, you need to look at what you would use everyday and have those as a priority.

One should get a peel instead, they seem to be more expensive though

Try Clarins, people like that a lot... But I haven't tried it myself, I haven't exfoliated or peeled since June

I was slightly shocked when I saw MAC using Ben Nye eyeshadow palette for the Color Craft Ad..aren't they supposed to be using only their eyeshadows ?... isn't that considered cheating?

There were a lot of people shocked, but the way I see it is that some brands have their artists, but they will use other brands in order to get a thing to look a certain way. That's not the first case of "ruh-oh, Shaggy" that I've noticed. The original Dazzleglass promo had to have either been colour-corrected, or used with a liberal dose of Lip Erase. Style Warriors had to have used Yellow Scream as a base, or a Ben Nye thing, because Bright Future is not as bright as it was on Eugenia. I have a feeling they use Ben Nye for some things to get the bright-bright colours, so long as there is a MAC equivalent for that collection. Especially cause the Colour Craft MES aren't the greatest things in the world...:innocent:

I was just talking to the make up artist that did the visuals for color craft and she said that they barely used any mac products on it. She said that color craft was utterly crap in every way...which I agree with!

I have to disagree about it being totally crap. I still want 4 of the MSF's, at least three of the blushes, a couple of the shadows, and maybe a couple lip things. I agree though that MAC should have put more effort into it. They should also do more PRO repromotes, and it looks like they got that part of the memo. Show Orchid was a nationwide sell-out and when I go to a PRO store, or when I get money and am able to order over the phone, I have to order multiples as it is like my security blanket. They're bringing back Sculpt/Shape duos (LE product with PRO items), they're bringing glitters and pigments and CCB's and what not. MAC needs to slow down the number of collections that they do in order to focus on better-quality products. There have been some gems, but otherwise it's been a failure for many things. Sugarsweet was okay, as it had some good repromotes and arguably some of the best MSF's (in Laura Geller terms, close to "sugar-free"). Hello Kitty was garbage, with a few bright spots (Beauty Powders, blushes, some of the lippies, the pigments/Reflects Blue) but when you look at the fact that it was designed to appeal to the masses? Different. Style Warriors was one of the best in a long time, but it's an exception to the rule.

Not only would having less collections be less stressful, but it would be good for people like myself who are on limited budgets.

The one upside is that Ben Nye just got a huge publicity boost because when people see that they got those bright colours from the Lumiere palette, they'll want it. I know I do, as I love my brights.

^ I am shocked

I don't pay much attention to the visuals as I know I'm pale and pink and have to try everything on me, but I am going to take all of MAC's with a big rock of salt from now on ...

I'm so in love with crazy colours and they look beautiful in the eye makeup tutorials I've seen online but JESUS CHRIST, I went to MAC to try some on and they looked like circus makeup. I don't know if I just applied it too heavy but these bloggers seem to do it the same way by mixing colours and oh man it was a nightmare. Are the colours a lot more different than in pictures? Or did I just have bad luck, lol.

I know when I do looks for my blog (which is rarer because I get nothing but negative feedback) the colours do appear to be tamer, even though I do use brights. I think it's also the way that the colours are applied, the base that is used, and how it is blended.

^^^
i agree. depending on the base, blending and finish of the ES, you might have a super bright shade or a subdued watered down version of the color.

You get negative feedback for doing looks? That's not very nice is it!?

Re Color Craft, the only reason I wanted to go out and get some of the colors was because of that visual. If the colors are nothing like the visuals, why bother? Why not just make those colors?

I'm really looking forward to Style Black. Does anyone know a uk release date?

Oh believe me, I've gotten slammed because I don't smile, I get slammed because of my "bug-eyes", and I just had one person call me totally ugly and an alien. I can't help it that I don't have a classically pretty face. I've gotten some positive stuff but also quite a bit of negative. I take constructive criticism well-for example, I know I need concealer (I can't afford Boi-Ing right now). But calling me ugly is just wrong.

Style Black will probably be an early October release for you over in the UK. Speaking of October, Temptalia just got the deets for the holiday collection, and it's insane. They are doing eye palettes, lip palettes, and face palettes! One has Pretty Baby, Peachykeen, and Sunsparked Pearl, the other has Golden, Sunbasque, and Buffed & Polished. The palette designs themselves are square, with square shadows and rectangles for the lips. For the face palette, there are two shadows on top and then it slides out to reveal the third powder.
