The MAC Makeup Thread

^ You know, I am simply amazed how gratuitously negative some people can be

I just read the other day that those who criticize are afraid of criticism themselves and what other people think. Of course the only opinions that really matter are your own, and those of people you respect :flower:

See I admit, I criticize, but it's more about makeup mistakes and not about how a person looks in general. If someone says "You need to blend better" or "You need to maybe try a different colour", that's great. I can't control how I look on camera.

Oh believe me, I've gotten slammed because I don't smile, I get slammed because of my "bug-eyes", and I just had one person call me totally ugly and an alien. I can't help it that I don't have a classically pretty face. I've gotten some positive stuff but also quite a bit of negative. I take constructive criticism well-for example, I know I need concealer (I can't afford Boi-Ing right now). But calling me ugly is just wrong.

Style Black will probably be an early October release for you over in the UK. Speaking of October, Temptalia just got the deets for the holiday collection, and it's insane. They are doing eye palettes, lip palettes, and face palettes! One has Pretty Baby, Peachykeen, and Sunsparked Pearl, the other has Golden, Sunbasque, and Buffed & Polished. The palette designs themselves are square, with square shadows and rectangles for the lips. For the face palette, there are two shadows on top and then it slides out to reveal the third powder.

Christ, I'm shocked, really shocked. Why would someone be so needlessly beastly for no reason? You have huge passion and are endlessly informative about mac and all its products, I think it's brilliant, why would you bother commenting just to be horrible.

I want Style Black now! I don't want to wait! Still, i'm going to look at temptalia, that'll keep me quiet.

Style Black I am skipping completely except for the skincare. The VAE is the best scrub I have ever used, and I am dying to try that mask. The holiday palettes I will avoid except for the face kits. The holiday collection itself, I am interested in the MES to see if they are decent. I hope some are along the lines of Fresh Green Mix/Sea & Sky and not say, Engaging. I do like the looks of those Dazzleglasses though, I love Mineralize blushes, and I will buy Ever So Rich just so that I can say I have it.

About the commenters, people need to know that I'm not out there to be the biggest beauty blogger-I'm doing this as something for me. I don't get anything from this-I do it for fun. So I do take it a little personally because they want to stop MY fun. Oh well!

You're skipping Style Black? It's the only collection I think I'm buying all of!

I can't do the blacks very well. The way that my skin, hair, and eyes are, I am much more suited to bright colours. (N20 (dunno if it's NW or NC)/medium brown hair that lightens easily/grey-green) The only black shadows I own are in palettes-Urban Decay's Zero, Beauty Marked, and so forth. I prefer using shades like Contrast, BE Skyline (a dark lilac-toned grey), Deep Truth, Sea & Sky, and so forth as black isn't suited well to me. A couple of the Mineralize shadows look interesting, yes, but the M-A-C collection is more my style. Also the holiday collection does look interesting, as do the Dazzlecremes.

I am hoping that the magenta pigment in the collection is similar to Fuschia, so that I can pass on it. I know my mum is definitely looking at the purple quad, and I had thought of Photorealism for awhile but I just got a cheapie Avon green trio, and I rarely ever touch the greens I have with the exception of Fresh Green Mix. IMO, Fresh Green Mix is up there as one of the top Mineralize shadows ever done. The two things I know I need for sure are the Reflects glitters, as I use some sort of RG every day. Rust and Copper, apparently, are among the better RG's. I'm sad that Pearl hasn't gotten to stores, but Red isn't really that great, to be honest.

is there a duplicate for "something about pink"? (its the hot pink cream nailpolish from the hello kitty collection) im nearing the end of my bottle and its my "lucky" shade.

From MAC? Not that I know of. I would definitely go for an OPI-give Shorts Story, La Paz-itively Hot, or It's All Greek To Me a try. I know the last two have shimmer but LPH is now available in a matte finish.

oh well.
im glad the $$$ yes is a repromote for the holiday collection. thats another polish that was a staple for me.

It's a very popular one, however I have Essie's Loophole and it's more my type of silver (a lighter silver). I also have Ritzy Business, so I am good (even though $$$$$ Yes is pretty).

^ The streaks drive me crazy ($$$$$ Yes) :ninja:

Have you looked for your lucky polish on eBay?

What do you have to do to get the pro student card?? This isn't the same as the pro card is it?

I bought Prep+Prime online since I've read so many great reviews on it. But it causes my skin to be flaky. I want to return it but since I bought it online, I'm thinking that I can't return it instores?

You have to fill out a form like you would with the pro card and prove you are studying makeup, and I believe they ask when you will no longer be a student because they expire after you are done schooling.
Oh and with the student cards you only get like 20% off.

I went to the big M-A-C party tonight and it was insanity! When you look at the collection itself, and all the stuff, you think that it's a weird selection-but it's inspired by Richard Phillips, Maira Kalinen, and Marilyn Minter. The Richard part has the lip products, the blushes, and the quads-so it's kind of the main displayer. The Maira part has the single shadows and the Technakohls, and the Marilyn part has the pigments and glitters. The eyeshadows, in my eyes, are the stand-outs. The quads are good too, and Full Body sold out, so they put Hang-Up (a Cremesheen) in its place-and most people liked the permanent lipstick better! I ended up buying Reflects Rust, Colour Matters, and then Off The Page, and I am B2M'ing for Crest the Wave next week.

Are the quads the round eyeshadows split into 4?

I was in MAC today trying out a natural/shading browns look with 3 shades of brown, and thought if they had eyeshadow palettes like other make up companies make, it would be so much easier than buying them seperately... :innocent: But the only ones I could see were the round pots split into 4 and they werent neutral colours..

xx

The premade quads and palettes come out for specific collections-they don't have any permanent ones available. What you can do though is buy the empty quad ($4 usually) or a 15-pan palette ($12) on the MAC website or at a freestanding MAC store, and then buy the eyeshadow pans for $11 apiece, as opposed to $14.50 for potted shadows.

Oh, a correction to my post from last night-it's Maira Kalman, not Kalinen. What can I say, it was late!
