The Mascara Thread

I'm good with mostly cheapies (like Maybelline and Revlon), but on the teeny bit higher end (student budget!) Estee Lauder's Lash XL is my fave mascara.

Lancome L'Extreme & L'Oreal Voluminous in carbon black...can't live w/out them.

In my opinion - best drugstore mascara is Maybelline Define-a-lash. I love this kind of brush, same with Chanel Inimitable. But lately i'm itching for a change (I'm never satisfied with my lashes  )

YSL Faux Cils was my first great mascara love, but I'm thinking about trying an Armani or a Lancome one. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not blessed with the longest lashes, so I want something that's going to give me volume and length - but I don't want them to be too seperated...I'm asking too much :rofl:

I know it's cheap too, but I LOVE my mascara ^_^ Rimmel Lash Maxxx  This is the first mascara I'm really satisfied with...

i usually perfer cheaper/drugstore mascaras to more expensive department store ones. i find the expensive ones are more "wet" which i hate...i love Rimmel and Covergirl mascaras! i cant wait to try the new Covergirl one!

i tried urban decay's big fatty and i enjoy it quite a lot too
i think sometimes the brush also matter a lot too.

Lancome's mascaras are pretty good with the only downside that they dry really quickly, some less than 3 months. Needless to say, I've realized how many I've tried!

Deficincils: the classic one but surprisingly, I'm not that fond of it because it doesn't do much for volume and dries quickly. Good only if you want a natural daytime look or to use together with another mascara.

Hypnose: great for volume and lengthening. One of my favorites, looks like you have glossy fake lashes. Comes with a great brush but not as big as Diorshow's. Recommend this one.

Virtuoso: one of the newer ones that claims to curl and lengthen so that you don't need to curl your lashes. From personal experience, this wasn't always the case. It doesn't do much for volume and seems to clump more than the first two.

By the way, how do you like YSL Faux Cils? Is it better than Diorshow? I just recently got it since everyone was raving about it. But I'm not too sure about it since whenever I use Diorshow, towards the end of the day, I get smudges and have slight raccoon eyes! And does anyone else notice a strong scent to it?

i like a dramatic look for my lashes and have found that diorshow works really well to achieve volume and length. i tried diorshow blackout but tht wasnt as good due to the clumpiness. for cheaper alternatives i like maybelline xxl blackest black and loreal voluminous :)

Does diorshow come in waterproof? I had a sample of non waterproof and it was good its just that the wether here means a waterproof one is best!

Yes, they have a waterproof version of Diorshow.

I've been using Lancôme Cils Design Pro, but I need a new mascara now. I've always used Dior, Lancôme and Chanel, but now that I live abroad I should save some money. Are L'Oreal or Max Faxtor any good? I have very, very long lashes, so I just need volume.

I just ordered the Fiberwig set from Sephora. It's a great deal at only $22. I will report back on how I like it. I currently use and like Stila Major Lash.

i used to wear lancome hypnose but it did dry really quickly and it did make my lashes too clumby and probably too fake lash efeckt for my taste..

^ I used to wear it, it's ok. Nothing special. It's a little too matt and too "black" for my taste.
I still buy it from time to time when I get tired of spending too much money on mascaras.

After reading everything that was said about it, i finally bought the Diorshow mascara. The brush is bigger so i don't get clumps. I used to wear Maybelline and MAC, but i noticed that they were too heavy for my taste, and my lashes used to stick to each other easily.

For now i'm quite happy with it :D

My mom has worn Lancome L'Extreme forever. I used it a couple of times and it's pretty good. It's not that heavy, but the bad thing, as pinkpolo said, is that they tend to dry easily.

Tip. You may already know this, but ..when i bought the Diorshow, i told the salesman that i didn't want it to leave me little smudges after wearing it for a few hours. He told me that most of women pump the brush while taking it out or putting it back, and this causes the mascara to dry faster. You have to carefully twist it while talking out the brush so air won't get inside. (It was poorly explained, my English is failing me today)

So I bought a tube of Blackout yesterday but I asked the MAC person to help me over there to save time & she really didn't know enough about Diorshow, so I guess that was a mistake :innocent:

Anyway, I was hoping someone here could explain to me what is supposed to be the difference between Diorshow & Blackout. I know the Blackout brush is smaller ... So far, I'm thinking I like regular Diorshow better.

I've been using Blackout for awhile and I have to say I agree - regular Diorshow is better. Blackout clumps so much, and I never had that problem with regular Diorshow. I'm switching back as soon as I finish this tube.
