i imagine avant garde lovers in these abstract clothes... take away the gothic makeup on the runway and i think it really would appeal to a different group (not liking it there :innocent: ) thanks for pointing these out~~

lovely idea for a thread...:flower:

this biggest trend i see happening for fall...
luckily i already own a closet full of these clothes...

:innocent:

I have to agree with the makeup. I think that's the biggest contributor to the vibe.

Actually, i'm not gothic's fan but you can post few Mary-Kate's pictures for example, haha

i love the last look you posted, kim. and i actually really like the makeup...i think it's often overdone on the runway, but i've been wearing makeup like that for a while, obviously in more realistic quantities. i'm not gothic by any stretch of the imagination (unless you count that i wear a lot of black, but it's more than that), but i think it looks really good. very dramatic. it highlights my otherwise boring brown eyes

i feel like this trend has been happening in some incarnation for years though. is it really new this year?

not 'new'...
but finally being embraced fully by the designers and the fashion community thanks to people like olivier theysekens and rei kawakubo, etc...

a dark cloud had settled over fashion this fall and it's beautiful...imo...

those looks posted are great (mainly Tisci's) BUT... of all things, is gothic a trend for fw05.06?
if it is.. than i must be missing something

call it gothic, call it victoriana, call it edwardian...
it's all the same....

and yes...it is THE major thrust for fall...

black is back in a big bad way...:mowhawk:

Lovely.

Really liked the shape of this outfit by Cecilia Bjork:

There aren't nearly enough pregnant nuns, locked up virgins and double-incest plots for this to be gothic.

Hedi, Ann and Ricardo obviously haven't been reading 'The Monk'...

wow strawberry...that's lovely...who is the designer?...
never heard of her?...

I hadn't either (not that that's saying much :p)
So I just looked her up. A student at London College of fashion it would seem.

it's all in the eyes.

good eye makeup makes or breaks a gothic look.

i'm excited about this too...i love the look of all black!

i don't think it's 100% in the eyes, haydn...it's important, but not all encompassing. i've seen beautiful gothic outfits where the model or whomever wasn't wearing a spec of makeup. i think it depends on lots of different factors.

i will find my favorite examples of 'gothic' soon!

:woot: this is a fantastic dress strawberry, thanks for bringing miss Bjork's work in :flower:

*hmm black yes, gothic no... still not persuaded that gothic is high trend for winter
turn of the century/victorian and gothic do not have too much in common, much more since fw05.06 turn of the century is more 'delicate', more romantic and did not have too much black (eg. ysl, rochas etc)
