Ritchie: Doherty's drugs inspire me

Film maker Guy Ritchie says he based one of the characters from his new film Rock'N'Rolla on drugs fiend Pete Doherty.
Speaking to the Empire magazine, the British director, 39, reveals: 'At the time I was writing it, Pete Doherty was everywhere ... It's either genius marketing or a happy - or unhappy - accident ..."

He describes the Babyshambles singer's never-ending woes as creative, explaining: 'It's creative self-destruction in the sense that he's doing it creatively ... I think what we all like is someone who fell and then stood up again. And that's probably the story with Pete Doherty.'

There seems to be an implication that people want to see him jump. But at the same time there's a desire to see the likes of him being reborn ... you get lost in the sugar of drugs. I guess that's why people take drugs, to get lost in the sugar of it. But sugar kills.'

POTTY PETE DOHERTY lost the plot last night...after being pelted with coins, spliffs and MUD PIES.

The junkie rocker was even forced to use his guitar to defend himself as the missiles rained down.

And as one found its target he yelled back at the crowd: “You dirty bastards!”

The drama began halfway through his eagerly-awaited Live At Loch Lomond performance.

Hardened Pete watchers were stunned when the drug-addled star arrived at the festival in Balloch, Dunbartonshire ON TIME.

And they were even more astonished when he took to the stage on NOTHING more than a few rum and Cokes and a Guinness.

Packing his set with fan faves like Down In Albion and covers like Pretty Vacant and I Fought The Law, he was in better form than I’ve seen him in years.

And he must have namechecked just about every town in Scotland in a bid to charm the fans. But then someone lobbed a coin and he ranted: “10p? Is that all I’m worth?”

Before he knew it, objects were raining down from all directions.

Jokingly, he unstrapped his acoustic and attempted to bat a few back into the crowd, wailing: “Three thousand against one — that’s not very fair! You can do better than that can’t you, you f***ing mugs!”

But years of drug abuse have clearly affected his aim because he didn’t hit a single thing. Then he tried catching some, only to screech out: “I’ve just caught a s***! Thanks again!”

But after wiping his hands, he cheered up enough for a quick tribute to the SEX PISTOLS — who headline today — and croaked: “Wish the boys well.”

God, except for the time he played Hackney Empire with Carl I've never seen the crowd behaving at a shambles gig. He attracts so many idiots. Bless him.

well Rotten doesn't dislike pete but i think it's not exactly like that... he recently said this: "Doherty's got trapped in a publicity campaign that has run out of order. Another fool who is given a golden opportunity to do something wonderful in his life and he'd rather be selfish and cowardly. D***s are the modus operandi of the coward. Pete is a fine lad that needs to sort himself out. This is Mister Rotten telling you I waltz on stage sober because no d**g in the world is as good as being absolutely 100 percent honest with your audience. Nothing compares to that emotion. People like him and Amy Winehouse are getting it wrong as usual. I've known very many people who have died from d***s over the years. It has been an uphill battle all the way to make them understand it is not cool or an image you need. Acting that way is actually hiding from yourself. Pete and people like that are caught up in the corporate pressure and can't handle the stress. You can't go to college and study that kind of tension. It's very difficult for people. I watched Sid implode from the inside out because of record company pressure. He couldn't cope with it. It was savagely cruel to throw him in at the deep end that way. well, rotten is known for his big mouth and most of the time he is right. he basically admitted pete as an artist that was my point. but he's very well aware of pete's situation, he has been there with sid.

also, nigel kennedy said the same thing. pete is talented but he cannot find a way out.

nigel and rotten have very similar views on many things. i wonder if they are friends...
