The return of pointy toe shoes FW 08/09

I know I'm a guy, and have no concept of how uncomfortable they are to wear, but I'm glad to see them back. The chunky, platform-y, round and bulbous look was wearing thin about a year ago.

Not that I don't like a round toe. I think the appeal in this is the whole look, the high stiletto heel, the occasional ankle strap...it's just very refreshing. I could easily see a round toe stiletto pump with ankle strap being a fantastic compromise between the two looks, innocent in the front, bitchy in back.

Balenciaga's pumps were definitely my favorite shoes of the season, Lanvin's are a close second.

I'm a little excited about this, some change doesn't hurt.

But I do agree that those very long points are a no-go.

I know, they are ridiculous. but I agree with Spike413, a little point is much sexier than a round toe!

I just got rid of 2 of these. I do like some versions of them (hmm, actually the long ones have a possibility to look good, think black soft leather with T-strap :heart:) and have been wearing winter boots with really pointy toe and comfortable heel and they work really well!

+ come to think about it, I just bought Mango ankle boots with pointy toes a month ago :lol:

Yeah, they're so uncomfortable and I hate it but I still buy it :lol:

I like a small pointy toe,.. anything that makes the foot seem longer than it really is is just a no-no for me

I didn't think that this style really went anywhere. I mean they might not have been featured on the runways heavily but as far as women wearing them. This isn't really a trend imo.

Two friends of mine at school wear pointy-toed pumps. One of them wears high-heel pointy-toe pumps while another wears flat or low-heel pointy-toe pumps. I personally love cute round-toe pumps more than the pointy-toe pumps. The lady with the high-heel pointy toes works as a faculty member, so wearing those pumps along with some career-appropriate clothing blends well. My other friend usually wears them casually.

I've slowly grown to love them because I haven't been too hateful of pointy-toe pumps. I just hated in this '80s explosion a few years ago of pairing skinny jeans with flat or low-heel pointy-toe pumps because it just looked wrong on various levels for me. I don't mind pointy-toe shoes, but round-toes are always stylish. As long as the pointed tip of the shoes aren't seriously elongated to the point where they look like clown shoes, I'm okay with them.

maybe a small pointy toe would look good and elegant (depending on the outfit) but they're definately a big NO to me, i truly hate them, they look like cheap tasteless "outlet" shoes.. (i'm sorry :ninja: )

Well, in my opinion I agree they were never gone, it's more than a trend, only fashion victims buy exclusively shoes that are in fashion, the rest of the world buys what likes most. I have a bit of everything.

Uh oh... just looking at some of those photos makes my toes cringe in pain :shock:

I love the round toe trend and I'll probably stick to it. I have some flats that are pointy toe, but I always tried to stay away from really pointed heels, they just look so severe and squeeze my toes too much...ouch. I think that pointed toes only look elegant went they're slightly curved, not like a sharp angle.

:lol::lol::lol:

Wow, makes me feel old.

A trend that was hot went I first got interested in fashion...
can recall how much me and my chicks hated them back then

yet
I succumbed to them
looked like a freak

now
they are back!

I feel old

:lol:

i don't mind a little pointy toe but i really hate long pointy toe shoes...especially if you wear them a lot and the leather gets widened but the point is still really pointy. do you guys know what i mean!? it makes me wanna throw the shoes out right away. maybe my feet are too wide. lol

I couldn't agree more :cry::doh:

I always had a tad small love for the pointy toe pumps. I am surprised they supposedly went away. I had no idea. Most of my shoe collection is the small point and round toe platforms. A little point curve adds a bit flare to an outfit but I think round toe is more sophisticated and classier. It also depends on what kind of look you go for.

yeah to be honest I never feel that pointy toes went away 100% in terms of what was in mid-range shops (steve madden never stopped making them) and what people were wearing. That said, I feel like the pointed toes that are out now are similar to the ones that were popular right before the rounded toe came back which is that they have a much shorter toe box than when pointed toes first became popular and i like pointed toes with a short toe box

Mmmm...I'm not a big pointy-toe fan. Especially the long pointy toes. Screams tacky to me. Maybe a bit of a rounded pointy toe can look nice I guess. It's just a little too aggressive for me to really get into it.
