The Row - The All-Things The Row Thread

In the UK the denim leggings will prob be about a zillion pounds, i don't know why designers wack us Brits with such high prices compared to everywhere else - i mean the whole Banana Republic example takes the p***.

I completely agree. The same thing can be said about American Apparel and A&F. It's almost like they only bother to change the dollar sign to the pound sign without changing the figure.

I fell for the charms of The Row today and bought a black longer length tank from Le Bon Marche in Paris where they have just started stocking the label. While pricey, I loved the way the tank looked and fitted.

I was disappointed there weren't more things that grabbed my attention though. They did have the Hanover blouse in white, I would have preferred black though. I tried on the Bond Street Blazer which was good but not great and certainly not worth the 1300 Euros charged. If it had been 600 or 700 E maybe but the quality was not as high as the other labels on the same floor - its adajacent to Ann Demeulmeester and Balenciaga, etc....

If anyone is interested they had the denim leggings and little leather skirts which were cute. The knit cardigan piece is a total Rick Owens ripoff but not a patch on the originals IMO but the tees are sound....I hope they continue to stock The Row into the Fall season as I'd love to get my hands on one of their modern, easy-to-wear furs or shearlings.

silk jacket is hot and the black bandage/bondage dress is super sexy...if you have long legs it probably looks hot...

wow Grill so jealous !!!! any chance of a photo? esp of the tee on? hardly every get to see the pieces on someone. x

Grill I found the same with the pricing here in the UK. They charge the same as Balenciaga.. while I have been happy with the quality of Balenciaga I do not see why a new label like The Row justifies their price points. I'm glad to hear that you are happy with the tee shirt.

And leyla thanks for being such a great source of information on the line! :flower:

small manufacturing and fabric quantities usually make the prices rise, especially when one chooses to work with expensive material... Most designer mainline collections these days end up costing about the same, it's just that the bigger houses have higher margins than smaller businesses.

I really want a bandage skirt now that i know they come in different colours. Thanks Leyla!! :flower:

thanks everyone for your lovely karma messages :flower:
it is my pleasure to help where i can and i promise to keep everyone updated with any kind of progress

As I've said before (though no one listens to me!) or maybe can clarify....it's not that wholesale prices go up SO much for EU/UK people (I assumed they were roughly the same) it's that they have to pay high import duties and fees on the clothing since it's coming out of the US and because the quantities are so small I assume the margin is less spread out....I'm not sure if this makes sense and I agree, the price discrepancy is much more than other small similarly priced brands but I think it has to do with fees

Thanks for clarifying.:flower:

And thanks for your input Meg! However, I do not think you can blame too much on import duties when brands like 3.1 Phillip Lim are nowhere near as expensive here..

I still think the bandage skirt is FAB even if it is a total Herve Leger rip off.

I actually think the price discrepancy on Lim is pretty big considering that he had much wider distribution and buys materials in larger quantities than a company like the Row, but much less than bigger brands (obviously though that's just a portion of the price and other things factor into it). It's a tough comparison because he's a cheaper line, but the Lace and Sequin dress for example runs at $895 USD on Net-a-Porter and 635 pounds on the UK site which comes to just under $1300 USD which is a $400 USD difference which I think is pretty large. Any company which is entirely American based is going to be more expensive in the EU which is why I prefer buying things in their country of origin since I refuse to pay import duties and costs. Maybe Leyla can tell us if the wholesale price though is more expensive for EU buyers in which case I'll just shut up

the row has incredible fees and it is impossible for non US retailers to keep up the same little margin they have in the US.
i tried my best to keep it the lowest possible even though i should have really increased my retail price considering my shipping fees and import duties were ridiculously high...:(
well next season i will have to price according to my cost as well
prices for EU buyers should be lower but they arent!!! all brands usually have an international line and price list except the row
