yes, obviously it's a public forum...and no, i do not turn my head to look at car crashes...but this is nothing like looking at a car crash because if one sees a car crash it is usually because they pass it on the road and, therefore, have no other choice but to see it..This, on the other hand, is going out of one's way to bash something over and over, is a conscious effort and seems like a waste of time to me...Some people love to continuously bash "the scene" and if I had the same hatred to it, I do not think I would be making the effort to prove my point over and over, but rather not look at the thread at all

it's kind of like.. if you partake in nightlife in a major city and happen to get your picture taken, folks from the midwest will view those pictures and make fun of them on public internet forums.

...or maybe i'm off?

For the purposes of this forum I think it means an under 21-er who goes to clubs/bars in America, and this person also dresses a particular way, it's sort of kitschy 80s I think, I think Urban Outfitters has become a really "scene" clothing store, so you could look there for an idea of how they dress, or obviously check this thread. A lot of people find scenesters annoying because they think the way that they dress/act is really contrived, and unoriginal. I think a lot of the most "famous" scenesters are DJs or are in indie bands, but I don't really know. Hope this helps! You can always read back in this thread because the question has already been asked and answered by people who know better than me. :flower:

one of my fave scenesters, spencer.

OMG... what has this thread turn into?!

I sense a cat fight...

Anyways, I actually agree with Bartholomew and his opinion of what "SCENE" is, although it's not in the complete sense... it seems about right :) Everything he said is quite legit.

Scenesters are hipsters, pure and simple. The scene changes with the current 'underground' music style. Let's look at the punk scene, and I mean the real one, in the late 70's. Nobody wore biker jackets until Sid Vicious started to. Before that it was mostly, well, bikers. After Sid wore it, BAM! Hipsters bought jackets and punkified them in an attempt to look credible. Fast forward to say 1990. Anyone wearing flannel shirts with long hair looked homeless but then an album called Nevermind comes out and BAM! AGAIN! The flannel shirt is now the shizzles. The flannel is SO hip, that Marc Jacobs himself starts using it as a muse. And now, 'indie' rock is the 'scene' ever since rock became 'cool' again. That's how I see 'scene.' It'll all blow over when the mext musical revolution comes through. It tends to go in cycles.

BTW, Spencer is THE hippest bastard in this thread!

Might I add that I love how the Misshapes crowd and its cronies on this board are taking Spencer and using him as the new "cool" simply because he's ironic - look! He's an older man whose hairline is receding and wears glasses and suits, how ironic! Obviously we have something cool here, people!

Might I add I'm glad that Gareth-lookalike no longer has his own thread; perhaps he belongs, like one referred to him as, in the Hanson thread? But of course, that's ironic! And he knows it! But worst of all, that kid - what's his name? He's too forgettable - Jackson? - probably likes it like that. Because he's cool.

also some smalltown folks praise you and make you a god cause you got your picture taken a few times. so what. right? :D

I don't think 'scene' is something anyone (no matter how involved or not) should ever take very personally, or very seriously.
