The Secret Shopaholics Thread #6

not Daisuke Obana anymore? someone mentioned him in the recent Margaret Howell thread in D&G.

I did notice the clothes look a bit more sportswear these days.. if that’s simpler and basic that sucks because I still remember the sharper, yummier stuff from Margaret and.. why ruin something that is good and that is kind of rare these days.

It’s been a few weeks but they had a lot of stuff at the store by Bryant Park but the sizing is crazier than ever.. so so GIANT while it’s still xs. I love oversized and they had a gorgeous brown blouse, so light and textured and perfect for hot weather but the sizing is just.. hospital robe territory.
they released some info the other day.
not sure if the links are visible overseas. seems like they don't have any english pages for them so far.

the new muji labo collection released today on the us site.
the prices, compared to the previous collections, seem to be higher (which im sure they are attributing to the materials being used). definitely not as much poly being used, and if it is its not too high a percentage.
the outerwear looks nice, in particular this coat, but other than that im not too intrigued with the other pieces.

muji labo SS2025 (released over here already) if you are interested

some pics in case the link doesn't work over there

Love the light materials but it looks kind of lazy.. I feel like these are the same interchangeable pieces that you always find at a corner or in the sale rack of either Uniqlo or Muji (the long balloony skirt in peach or light yellow, the nude mesh cardigan). I wonder if there's a cultural element at play that makes them hard to relate outside of Japan. Margaret Howell tends to gravitate towards that same palette and silhouette for S/S, and U has been almost strictly sticking to that for summer collections in the past few years, and it feels (maybe I'm wrong!) exclusively aimed at one market and I can't believe my delusion to wish a Japanese company creating Japanese classics mAdE tHeM mOrE iNtErNaTiOnAl but here I am! 🤡.. just give me a little bit more structure and sharper lines, I do not care if it's 36 degrees and it's a sauna, I'm not pulling up to work in a light pink tent dress!

And now that I've ranted, I will proceed to go check it out! 😅.. also, I paid a visit to Muji's restaurant the other day (first one in the US). I was in a rush and did not have time to order anything (did see someone eating something that resembled a stew and looked pretty good!), but the robot they have preparing coffee..... the way it had a little crowd and we were all staring amazed made me feel like one of those peasants that encircle cameras like 'WHAT IS THIS' in these early 1900s videos on youtube lol.

it seems that their next move will be to open a new flagship in NY. they are actually looking for a place right now.

I guess when the muji customers in japan get muji pieces, they are not thinking about work so much.
wait..

This is a revelation to me! is it more loungewear/off-duty clothes?

Before planning a flagship, I wish they’d plan returning to California! the pandemic was brutal but it’s been 5 years!
