That is the question, my friends, that is the question...

agreed I don't think it could ever be out of fashion.

i still adore it. though i think it's not hipe anymore.
but, oh so classy!

Classic if you pick a solid neutral. Patterns and bright colors seem to be a this-season trend.

ditto...it is a basic...like a pair of jeans...it's not a trend...

Completely agree with everyone else. It's a classic (especially in black or khaki).

I think it'll always be in. For me it's one of the most chic clothing item ever.

it's classic, yes. but i'll wait another five years or so before i wear my burberry trench again. they're EVERYWHERE.

I'm afraid that a light turquoise trench isn't so classic, isn't it?

I bought a fabulous one, really quite fitted. I love it as I can wear it with so much. I loved those waist length ones that were floating about last autumn.

I agree it's a total classic especially in a solid classic block colour, the patterns will come and go but a plain trench will live on :flower:

I registered just now so I could post a question in this thread.^_^

All I see now are shorter trench coats, mid-thigh length. I have a longer trench coat that's about 15 years old, in great condition, classic khaki, with epaulets. The belt is long lost...do you think if I removed the belt loops it would look okay? Or are the traditional knee-length trench coats not as stylish anymore?

I saw some really cute trenches at Target, all of them the shorter length. I will probably pick one up in a light tan or khaki. But is my long trench still an option? I haven't worn it in years since I lost the belt as I loved the cinched look but now that I'm seeing the shorter ones sans belts I'm thinking of resurrecting it.

I've been lurking for some time now, btw, and I have picked up so much useful information just by reading here. This place is a treasure trove!:flower:

I'm also full of doubts, Caffeinated ! I admit I looove trenches , but on the street I hardly ever see anyone looking good wearing one. If you are ever slightly overweight or have a big bust, you look stocky. If you are small and thin, a trench swamps you. Besides, trench and spring raincoats are something for the over 50ies where I live. Especially in pastel colours, vanilla or light blue, knee-length, no belt. Of course, if you choose a trench with a belt you have to be very tall and slim or it will optically cut your figure in two blobs, and will accentuate your backside.

When I think of trenches, I think of the classic Jackie O. look. Khaki or tan trench (long), cinched, worn with a turtleneck and dark jeans. *edit* Ooh, I just found this pic and she's wearing a shorter one that looks smashing!:

Now they're all shorter. I like these from Target but can't decide whether to get the belted or non-belted style:

Picture the belted trench, without the belt, with epaulets and just-below-the-knee length and that's what I would have if I wore my old trench.

The more I look at these the more I think I'm going to get a new, shorter-length trench...:innocent:

Those look cute! But as you can see they must be of very thin material, VERY fitted, with few extra pockets, no epaulettes, no nothing. And a t-shirt underneath.

It's not fair to show Jackie as an example, she gave glamour to clothes, and not the other way around!
