The Trench; In or Out?

I just bought one in black yesterday, fitted and over the knee, I love how it looks with everything, I can't wait to wear it, but I have to wait until the end of September or October...

I'm always on the hunt to find a good trench coat, especially right now so I too could wear it for fall. It's so hard to find the right length for my petite size. Where did you get yours^?

It will never go out of style, it is a classic. I love my black trench coat, it's perfect for British winters.

Long live trenches!!! There is a unique elegance and mystery to trenches.

I love my beige trench, ive had it altered to fit me perfectly, you just feel so chic in one

Trench experts!

I myself am looking for a trench coat of whatever thickness, impermeability, etc that is somewhere along the lines of the following four coats: (the first of Doutzen in her own coat, the second I haven't identified but found on this site, the third of Charlotte Gainsbourg in some editorial or another, and lastly Roland Mouret's fantastic S/S 06 resort trench). I just don't want anything boxy or too wingtipped. I'm 5'9" and have a small, high waist so I'd like something quite cinchable. And I do like the idea of tying off a belt into a knot and I wear almost entirely vintage items. I also really don't wan't something on the order of La Redoute or Gap ...

saw the aquascutum- junya collaboration trenches today, grey denim trench..not sure...

Some things will never be out. Regardless of personal style (red lipstick and pencil skirts will always be in my books) some things like black and heels are undeniably, universely stylish. I think trenches are just one of those things.

ick...
can't stand trenches myself
but understand it's a staple forever.
ick ick though.

I still hold to my assertion that the trench never goes out and is the perfect accessory no matter one. I've got a gorgeous black one from topshop that I've scarcely walked out the door without since september.

i dont think trench will ever be out...its classic. Just dont get a pink one.:ninja:

Bit of a latecomer to this thread, but I am on the lookout for a vintage Burberry trench for the spring (my wallet doesn't allow for a new one!). It will be my first trench, but I can imagine getting years out one (if I get a good one, hence the old Burberry rather than new, say, H&M).

Although this morning is the coldest yet this season in Dublin, in *theory* it should be warming up soon - so is anyone else going to be digging out their trench for the spring?

I think trenches will always be "in" they're a wardrobe staple after all... they come back season after season with slight variations here and there... :flower:

Trenches are classics, and I've never gotten bored of them, I love them. Maybe if the kids who are now doing "emo" would start to wear it, I'd start to find them uninteresting.

As everyone has said a classic peice.
But were can I find a good one for men? Not to pricey the most I will give is 150-200.

^Not sure about men's trenches :(

Believe it or not H&M does have some good ones. I bought one there years ago and wear it nearly everyday. I have yet to find a well fitting one at any vintage stores (they mostly sell boxy 80s cuts). Banana Republic & Gap are worth checking out because they usually have at least one every year. Here are some relatively less expensive ones:

Anthropologie:

($158)

($148)

Gap:
