My piece is an addition to the Christian Dior Haute Couture collection fron Fall '05. http://www.newyorkmetro.com/fashion/fashionshows/2006/spring/women/hautecoutureparis/runway/christiandior/
To me this collection is like garden/garden party/fairy budoir inspired. The top is a corset style. With yellow on the top with orange detailed beading and orange on the bottom. The bottom of the dress is in the fishtail style and is a sheer fabric of yell and orange. The dress is accented with orange sheer gloves and fairy wings.

hey guys remember me??? I went on a unplaned (and too long) vacation but now I'm back in the game ^_^

you have all done so many great creations  I'm glad to see you all keeping up with the gorg work :flower:

To chose wish show was easy, I took a Dior as well. The best HC show ever, Dior goes Warhol is fantastic!!! It was hard to come up with an idea about what to ad, cause everythings allready there in Dior spring 2005.
The leathercap and boots are the same from the show. I added leather glowes (I'm sorry If that not shown in the picture, but the model are holding them :p ) and the shortsleaved wooljacket.

Here is mine:

This design is for Elie Saab Spring 2006 Couture
I have used Gold and Silver because they were prominant colours in the collection. Big bows and flowers were also a main feature

Well, its that time again! Thank you all for participating in this challenge.

Here we go...

dior couture 1245 – This dress is amazing! :woot: I love all the detail in the upper portion of the dress; it definitely screams ancient Egypt, just like Galliano’s collection. The blue and black is a stunning combination, and as you mentioned, this collection could have used some more black pieces. You clearly thought about the theme and paid attention to detail! Great job. :flower:

sj08 (ex Missoni08) – From your description of the dress it seems really beautiful. I think it would have looked quite stunning if you had colored your sketch. I can see how it ties in with the Lacroix s/s couture collection; all the different color
chiffon and crinoline on the bottom half, etc. The only thing I am not so sure about is the quilting, however, for your first time you did a very nice job. Impressive actually! My biggest tip is for you to color the sketch next time to make it pop. :flower:

JR1 - Wow! It’s extremely beautiful and unique, very haute couture. B) This piece has similar elements to the image you posted, yet it is completely different. The colors you picked are incredible and go well with the Swarvoski crystals. As you said, this piece works for an older client who does not want their belly exposed. I would even say I like your version more than JPG’s as it is definitely more elegant. Love it!

pg graffitti – I love this suit. The idea of using tulle where the lapels should go sounds interesting, I would love to actually see this. :o I also like how you used the colors, fabrics and elements of the rest of the collection such as the flowers on the belt buckle and the chains. Works well with everything else and it looks very sophisticated and wearable! Nicely done. :flower:

emma leigh - Your sketch looks beautiful, but I can’t see it! It’s really tiny and I don’t know which collection it should belong to. I still like what I see though! :flower:

runway scene - The shape of the dress and corset style top work well with this collection. I particularly liked the colors you chose and you mentioned beading, which I don’t see on the sketch, but I can imagine it. I also like how you incorporated all the sheer fabrics which dominated this collection. The only thing I am not sure I like are the fairy wings. It takes away from the seriousness of the dress but overall I really like it, especially the colors! Nicely done. :flower:

Perfect10 - I love this! Simple but chic. I also like the fact that you used purple, a color that is not in the collection, and yet it works. It is very wearable and elegant, and I love the collar and detailing around the shoulders. Another thing I like is that you incorporated the leather boots and caps that were already in the collection along with the gloves. If I was a girl, I’d definitely want this outfit! :ninja:

truebluejen - The colors are perfect for this collection. I’m in love with the fact that you used silver for the base of this dress and then sprinkled on those yellow green flowers along with the waist bow. Something that is unique about this dress, compared to others in the collection, is the fact that it’s a cross-strap! Great job, I could definitely see this along with the other garments. :flower:

Now… It was really difficult to pick one. Everyone did a great job tying in their garments with the collections and I am definitely impressed by all the talented people here on tFS. :flower:
I want to thank you all for submitting your drawings and allowing me to judge you based on my own experiences.

And finally…

The winner is… :argg:

dior couture 1245!!!!!!!

^ Great reviews

And well done dior couture! :woot: I hope you pick a super theme!

thanks guys...I really enjoyed that challenge!

And....for the next challenge.....

Around the World
Pick a culture/ country from any corner of the earth and design a garment that reflects the people's art, history, music, etc., etc. When presenting your design, please tell us what country you chose to take inspiration from.
You will be judged on how creative and innovative your design is and how well you represented your country/ culture.

:woot: lovely theme  and im going to london tomorrow, so i think ill take my inspiration from their :bounce:

i am so sorry for missing out so much..am i booted out? >o<
i havent been on TFS for quite a while =T..kinda busy
i ll try to do this week's challenge

i have a quesiton about it though..does it have to be a triditional culture..or can it be a part of pop culture
i love the Lolita culture that started in japan..and would love to design things related to it..is that fine?

edit: btw...i LOVE your design dior_couture 1245..awsome job!

^^ No, it's fine. I mean, lolita is Japanese, so go ahead!

When you design for your country, guys, it can be ANY aspect of the country's culture...fashion, art, music styles, famous people, stories/ legends, nature, even food if you're adventurous!

For example (hope I'm not giving away ideas...I'll keep it vague), but if you were to do Japan, you could do lolita, you could do something geisha like, or even design a sushi dress...

I chose the Japanese culture, because I love it and miss it. :(
Mine is sort of A modern geisha mixing the old kimono and obi with a more modern form of slouchy schoolgirl socks and huge wooden platforms. Enjoy.

^ great! :woot: to be honest, japanese never came to my mind, but its so obvious :woot:

ill do mine the day after tomorrow i think...

(sorry about the photo quality)

I decided to choose England for my country of inspiration
My dress is inspired by british horseriding culture. The dress is made of bright red silk, with a print of a horses bridle in the middle. The dress straps are made of tan/camel coloured leather.

i did mine on the lolita fashion/culture from japan's pop culture
lolita comes in many different styles and type
the majors ones are sweet loli(more rococo), elegant gothic loli(more victorian) and country loli
of course there are all those smaller styles like punk, wa-loli(japanese loli), gothic(all black), casual, dandy etc.

enough talking about that..
i really didnt feel like coloring..sorry..so i just did it in one color..
i didnt have an exact style of lolita when i was drawing..and i didnt look at anything..i just drew what i felt like lolita
im planning to make this outfit..but less details..=T
the style and inspiration i see from this outfit is more rococo..with alot of excess detailing

the material used is mainly silk taffeta..probably all silk..and cotton socks..tulle for the inside of skirt to make it puffy
colors used are rose, black and white..where the color goes is up to you to imagine

Very lovely drawing, muxu:heart:
The girl and the clothing look elegant.
It's interesting that it's inspired by a sub-culture in Japan,
which was in turn inspired by the Gothic and Victorian/Edwardian times in England:p So really, all these cultures get mixed into one

The other posts of course are also great!

^haha..true
loli is very much inspired by the 18th and 19th century..but done in a very doll like way

but if i was to design around the 19th century england..the drawing and design would be alot different..
i was still sticking to the lolita style but just went a little beyond

edit:
actually..if we go more into the lolita style..it's kinda dark and "evil"
i can somehow imagine a horror movie set around this lolita style XD

Oh you're right. 19th C has those bustles doesn't it:lol:
And I have never seen a lolita in a bustle!

But I have seen the 19th C sailor dresses at EGL shops, like Metamorphose:flower: I guess they get inspiration from the children's clothing in this period. Anyway, I don't think I'm so keen with EGL... I have some influence from people who wear it, but I like more this other fashion, those things you can find at Jane Marple:heart: (where some gothic lolitas also shop)

Nice to have someone here who likes this too *o*
