I hope this is alright, joining in on this after it's already begun... but I thought it'd be good for me to get back into practice with illustration.
This is my first entry ever on TFS, I only just joined today, so Hello!
So here's my entry for the Literary Figure design challenge:
I chose to use Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's
Portrait of Dorian Gray. I focused mainly on the young Dorian, whom I've reflected onto a female form, focusing on his pride and vanity, reflecting that in the ruffles and bows of the jacket. Rather than using a portrait to reflect his narcissitic tendencies, I used mirrors, which you can see on the heel and front of the boots, which can also be seen as Dorian being fearful of aging and constantly checking himself for any sign of a wrinkle. (A sort of pick-me up for the self-obsessed when they're feeling down, their heads hanging, they see themselves looking back up, and voila. Perhaps.) As for touching on Dorian's innocent and naivete, I kept my Dorian well covered up, yet still appealing. I didn't reflect the aging Dorian in this outfit, though it would be interesting to use it in perhaps a second outfit to show Dorian prior to his loss of innocence.
And finally, in case you don't know who Dorian Gray is, wikipedia has kindly created a page dedicated to the character
here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorian_Gray
Anyway, thank you and I hope you enjoy!
