Last week’s bumper £1 Outnet sale caused quite a commotion amongst our own Grazia Daily users and the wider community of online fashion fans. While we received word from a some very satisfied customers with their bargain purchases, our Facebook, Twitter and comment sections were overwhelmed by readers venting their frustration at not being able to log on – despite having pre-registered.
Tempers were running so high in fact that we got in touch with the Outnet.com themselves, with your queries. They replied today, and here’s what they said...
LustyMuppet described her morning of trying.
“This was such a scam! If it was an invite only event and they had advance notice of the numbers wanting access, it seems disgraceful not to have sufficient servers. I was awake at 5am and the website was impossible to enter. Once I got there, the pages crashed with each click and pretty much everything had been sold even though the sale had only recently started. It was impossible to add anything to my basket and I was signed out of my account over twenty times! I think this was just a nice little exercise for The Outnet (and so net-a-porter too) to capture data and email addresses from us. Which is such a shame. I will be writing a letter of complaint”.
A spokesperson for theOutnet.com responded:
“The phenomenal response to our first birthday sale has been exciting and something we don’t take for granted. While we were prepared for the number of people who wanted to attend our sale, the speed at which the orders came through - up to 9 orders a second – overwhelmedour servers and caused many of you to have difficulty accessing the website. However, the event was a sell out and thousands were able to walk away with unbelievable £1 bargains. We take on board feedback so that we continue offering amazing bargain opportunities. We want to thank everyone for being part of our first year celebrations and assure you that we try hard to always put customers first.”

“Definitely something not right... In their £1 sale a Chloe Irina bag showed as sold out. It's now available for sale again in an upcoming flash sale!!!”
A spokesperson for theOutnet.com responded:
“The Chloé Irina chain bag that appeared in our first birthday sale sold out. The one advertised for our forthcoming Going Going Gone sale is the same style but it is a different size - it's a medium sized version.”
Lastly we asked them to tell us how many items were actually sold for £1:
A spokesperson for theOutnet.com responded:
“We never disclose exact figures but can confirm that thousands of items were available in our first birthday sale and sold for £1.”
