Tom Ford Men's F/W 2020.21 Milan

I don’t like the retouching here!
No matter how underwhelming his womenswear is sometimes, his menswear is always directional and full of surprises.

The satin suits are totally decadent and can work on his younger customers and the accessories are delicious. No printed dinner jackets this season and I think it’s great. Time to break the formula!

He should go full FW 2003 Gucci menswear. He can cut a mean pair of flare pants!

Tom Ford is aimed at men who certainly don't dress like me - and I rarely like something beyond a well cut suit - but I somehow want satin pants now. And that denim jacket and pant combo with the white T-shirt is gorgeous!

It starts off so solid with the looser-fit glen-plaid/grey flannel/charcoal pinstripe suiting…. Then it’s all a nosedive with all the satiny/mauve-y/pink velvet Juicy Couture nonsense: those types of materials only works when expertly tailored with unflinching precision. Loosey goosey looks cheap— like it did with the women’s S/S lounge-y wide-leg satin pants. And designers really ought to just stop with trying to bring back baggy, stonewashed denim. Just insipid.

(Yes Lola— glad there’s not a tacky wallpaper-print dinner jacket paired with black pant in sight. I guess all the middle-age gays that wanted one got theirs.)

I personally like the baggier suiting trousers and jeans...that’s the kind of fit I prefer to wear, myself.

The rest of the collection is a mess.

And the styling, casting and photography do nothing to help.

Tom Ford looks good on slim or very athletic men. So when you see the dinner jackets on middle aged men who are maybe heavier, it tends to look a bit « trying too hard ». The cut of his suits is unforgivable and at a certain age, simplicity works best (Robert Iger looks good in TF).
One thing is sure, you won’t see middle aged men in full satin.

You needs extra style and confidence to wear these pants. When I look at his FW2003 men’s collection, I find it hard to believe that men used to wear those shapes of pants. It seems very edgy for today!
