Trends You Are Sick Of...

Also want to add I hate the trend towards a general lack of dressiness or "dressing up". What happened over the course of the last 20 years? I remember back in the day everyone had a few good blazers in their closet, some nice winter coats, collared shirts/blouses and skirts or trousers.

I see my peers now "dressing up" and it's a barn/chore jacket with a t-shirt or sweatshirt underneath, and the most unflattering jeans you could imagine! I just hope the pendulum swings back to a little more of a polished sensibility, I'm tired of everyone looking like a walking Madewell or Everlane campaign.

Not a trend but I need to get this off my chest because they resurface as soon as the temperatures drop: knitted hats in pastel colors with a giant pom pom. What are you, 18 months old? need a pacifier too? HATE THEM! I know you’re cold but a pompom is not the answer, it literally does nothing to protect you from the cold.

^ it's disgusting!

I have a coworker who wears suits but for whatever reason he keeps choosing cigarette type of pants (two sizes too small cause he works out of course). Another, younger coworker once said that he wished his suits looked like that on him and I couldn't help but immediately say 'are you serious!?'.. the looks these men gave me! they were all like 'you don't like the way x looks!? we all want to look like him!' 🤣. So you want to dress like Jojo Siwa, great. I don't care if you're ripped, just go on google, look up 'henry cavill suit' or something and figure it out! calves and butt should never protrude in a men's suit, I know nothing about suits but will die on this hill!

This one is a bit more long-term one, but I hate Scandinavian fashion. I'm sure that the only reason why it's popular is because these brands are priced more accessibly, because it's so depressing to look at: shapeless rectangles cut in brightly-coloured polyester draped on a body, styled with a Chiquito bag, a BV Lido dupe and flat long hair with a middle part. Like girl, you look a Philophile that got attacked by a mob of children carrying Crayola.

^This is actually thanks to Hedi Slimane; I once read a long analysis of how his jackets for Dior Hommes influenced on the way jackets are still producing in fast fashion stores.

It's popular because it's too practical. A few years ago I was in Copenhagen and my culture shock was seeing some adult women wearing ski suits at the end of March when there was no snow left.

^I'm not surprised this is Hedi's influence and these men just failed to notice when fashion turned away from the ultra-slim trouser cuts, but it's worth noting the early male adopters (hipsters) were mostly really slender so never looked like sausage casings in theirs. Now it's a style that I exclusively see on gym bros.

I relate to the mindset, I do the same where I live. Wearing my warm-a*s parka for to long well into spring. It's more about warmth than snow.

It’s gone beyond Hedi’s influence at this point. Stretch has been added to every damn fabric in mass-produced fast fashion (to cut back on any semblance of tailoring, so every ill-fitting garment has stretch to hide that it actually doesn’t fit) in the same way that boxy/oversized is still being pushed in high fashion to cut back on tailoring investment. Then both gymbros and gym marys have adopted supertight suits with stretch/spandex to flex their bodies— while convinced that they’re still “classy” (LMFAO) in these “suits” are beyond the influences of Hedi’s Dior Homme fits.

At one end of the tacky spectrum are the fashion victimz in their boxy Bottega suit jackets that has them resembling pubescent-looking men wearing suits 3 sizes too big. Then on the other end of that tacky spectrum, are the gymbros/gymmarys in their JoJo Sita (LOL) bodycon spandex suits. Armani is right: 99% of humans really possess not a whiff of style.

(And BTW that day finally came…. I involuntarily grimace and my skin instinctively crawls nauseously whenever someone says…”luxury” [when 99% of the time it isn’t]. That overused word is in the same standing as “classy”, and only conjures seething and loathing these days.)

skinny jeans in general but especially on men with muscular legs
It's either this or giant (Balenciaga-inspired) pants (for Gen-Z). This really seems to be a moment of extremes when it comes to men's pants right now. I love when I see men in well-fitted clothing now, as it feels like such a rarity these days that it really stands out to me.
