UK Harper's Bazaar September 2009 : Natalia Vodianova by Paola Kudacki

Finally got my hands on my subscriber issue - it got rescued from the postman but got left in a car - and the one thing I really enjoyed about this issue is that it was for women. I mean, it usually is, but after reading some other September issues, thank God for a magazine which knows I might have adult tastes.

Sometimes I feel that UK HB is like the British version of Vogue Paris, perhaps an unequal comparison, but both seem to understand that you can deeply desire fashion, yet the larger picture is one where you lead your own life. That fashion is a tool - like a knife - which you wield to get your way in the world, a world where you don't live for fashion - you make it your slave.

I agree wholeheartedly! How wonderful to have intelligent articles to read alongside beautiful fashion editorial and excellent shopping pages. The men on strong women feature is great. Vivienne Westwood's husband's piece was brilliant.

Did Natalia's ed have an accompanying article? If so, can anyone post it? Thanks!

I like the styling of the 'Lady Dada' ed.

I'm not sure if it was already mentioned but there's also a preview of next month's issue with Bette Franke, which will be a London Fashion Week special.

^The subscribers and the newstand version are big sized.
So is this new format? I found paper was different too. I have some awful V flashback, too big mag to my purse. Some reason mag didn't feel so glamorous than usually but I haven't really check it better yet.

The format was originally done in March as a "credit crunch treat" and then it went back to regular size.

They must have thought it was a good idea to do a large scale September issue too, but it's not a regular thing. October's issue should be back to the regular sizing.

October will be normal size, but they'll be using the large format for March and September issues in the future.

I enjoyed this issue very much, and i have to say the large format, even though unappealing at the first thought, was great. The cover is stunning so big, as are the edits.

The large format is a one off? booo
I'm quite partial to a bit of quality paper [] and that's one of the reason why I bought this issue. I Just took out a subscription and everything. Oh well...£15 for 12 issues ain't bad.

Lovely cover and good issue overall.
