UK Vogue August 2023 : Maya Jama by Steven Meisel

It’s a nice cover. Too bad about the editorial….

And so what if she's a reality TV host? If Alexa Chung and Cheryl Cole can have multiple covers, I don't see a problem with this.

It's been almost a month since Anna has announced her spectacular "The September Issue", I hope that Edward has some ace up his sleeve... Although, judging by this August's "salad", it's hard to predict enything with certainty!

Wow, I can’t remember a more basic Meisel edit. He can usually create magic in the studio but this looks like one of his copycats.

The rest of the issue is not even worth critiquing.

I received my subscription copy this morning - the cover is even more beautiful in pristine glossy form.

What gets me is the editorial with the bluebells. Across the UK, bluebells are a big signifier of spring - and bluebell season is LONG OVER. This is the equivalent of featuring Easter at Halloween.

I can see people reading this and saying, are you really going to be that picky about blue flowers? Yes, because if you're at all in touch with the seasons, it's very odd to see a story with a spring background in the approach to autumn.

I can see why they did it - it's a Burberry clothing with a floral theme, but if the countryside is being used to provide that 'heritage' feel, it helps to be season-consistent, or else the entire sales pitch feels totally inauthentic and superficial, designed to appeal to people for whom the outdoors is a foreign land.

Over and above the bluebell rant, I see this editorial includes Penelope Tree and Elise Crombez.

The Vogue/London shoot was all over instagram two months ago.

I just wonder is there any new f/w campaign in this month?

Meisel made magic. She is certainly beautiful but he elevated her in a way…
On video she has a classic reality tv star look I have to say.

‘The whole issue feels like a budget US Vogue.
Was Anok’s ed necessary?

Inside cover is 4pgs Gucci, then 2pgs Dior, 4pgs Chanel (Métiers d'Art), 2pgs Scarlett J for Prada bags, 6pgs Cartier, 2pgs Miu Miu with Gigi Hadid, 2pgs Dolce & Gabbana with Maya Jama, 2pgs Omega watches with Zoe Kravitz, 2pgs Fendi, and then the ads peter out into the more generic watches, jewellery and perfume ones. Back page is Saint Laurent.

Anok looks great, but what was the point of her sister?
If you were going to do a sister team Awar & her sister would've been a better choice ( though Anok is a better model than Awar )

Can you share the link to Anna commenting on the September issue please?

the shelves are still full here in London, I don't think it's sold well (unlike the Summer Vogue US Margot Robbie issue which sold out in a few days) I hope September is worthy, Maybe with 90 supermodels or a Kate Moss (by Steven Meisel)

Kate doesn't like Meisel
