I'm so happy to see Lizzo, she's so wonderful and a worthy cover subject - I just wish they'd gone to the effort to do a proper portrait with her, because this 100% feels like an after-thought. It seems as if they've quickly mocked up a cover using an image from the feature. Why have 2 big-name stars on the same month, with no theme to connect them, nor a consistent photography aesthetic?
If this was a last minute decision, I wonder what prompted it. I half think it's the commendation for Phoebe Waller-Bridge on US Vogue. PWB is a fresh and unexpected choice and there's no doubt Edward wants his Vogue to be seen as THE Vogue, particularly when it comes to exciting and exclusive cover stars. Edward knows social media will eat this up, and that it will get a tonne of praise and hype.
I'm not so sure I buy that this was always planned. I could be wrong, but I'll be very interested to see if this cover appears anywhere in print. Then again, they could've just marketed this as the "digital exclusive cover", so maybe it was planned all along. I guess we have to wait and see.
