UK Vogue June 2022 : Gisele Bündchen by Steven Meisel

Glorious to say the least, an absolute knockout of a cover. It's rich, it's luxurious and the glamour is just pouring out of the image. Also... the hair!

I can only echo this... This cover is a total win! Pure regal. This is actually everything I expect from a Vogue cover. It's alluring, it's sexy, it's luxurious, it's glamorous, it's confident. Yes yes yes! I've missed this! Fantastic job.

If she's Stifler's mom, everyone would love to play Paul Finch here. She's a Mother I'd Love 2 Fun (in an educated way).

Much better than her V spread, but nothing special, from her or Meisel.

She looks stunning obviously and it’s great to see Meisel outside of the studio. It’s all very Helmut Newton lite, but the Elsa Peretti inspired shots are nice.

It probably wouldn't make it into in the top ten Gisele editorials of all time, but it's better than what we've seen for who-knows-how-long.

If UK Vogue is one of the few Conde Nast magazines to still possess all its faculties, and if we're in a post-covid phase where magazines are more free to go places and make content, then I welcome a return to more interesting stories.

Those endlessly repeated bland studio shoots probably look great on a spreadsheet about cost savings, but how long can Conde Nast churn them out before interest levels tank even among the most ardent magazine fans, never mind the casual reader?

Although speaking of reprints, I wish they'd reprint a version of this for Vogue Italia, like the Lady Gaga one, just to have another issue with a Meisel cover story...

The paneling of the wall with its slight reflective quality immediately made me think of Guy Bourdin's 1972 image of the girl in front of the mirrors, and I got way too excited before I scrolled down further and saw the full image.

Would have been fabulous if they upped the ante a little more, but I know it wouldn't go down well with the social media peanut gallery so playing it safe (albeit very glamourous) was a smart move. I hope this is the beginning of a slight shift in fashion, but I will wait with bated breath. Not that I only want to see full blown and somewhat alienating glamour in fashion, I just want to see it back as an option again.

The Schiaparelli bra and knickers are dreadful. I thought it was another one of Area's "haute couture" creations and recoiled a bit at the sight of it.

Stifler's mom gone wild

For how many years does Enninful work in top publications actually and why it all looks like he just arrived there from a fashion forum :innocent:

That about sums up his abilities in one fell swoop LOL

There will always be people that are overly-privileged to always remain in the good graces of fortune that keep them in the lap of luxury not because of any talent and creative vision— but simply for knowing all the right people and good social-climbing skills. For all his years snug in the very heart of the fashion elite, he’s only been a decent stylist at best (— and that’s not taking into account that he blatantly ripped off Lori Goldstein and Phyllis Posnick wholesale).

And taking advantage of, and weaponizing race has him appointed at Vogue UK— and let’s not kid ourselves, Vogue Italia and Paris are also his as well now. Not to mention through basic political gimmick maneuvering by way of SM, he’s amassed the commoners to his side (of which the fashion elite had until the rise of SM, usually shunned but now are begging for approval from), making him arguably the most powerful editor of them all. Still not an inkling of creative talent— but got to admit his social skills are to be admired if one lacks creative talent but still ambitious enough to set their sight for Anna’s throne. He absolutely played the game.

Anyway, no complaints for this Gisele shoot. 10, 20 years ago this brand of shoot would just be typical. Nice enough, but nothing extraordinary. But we’re not in remotely decent times anymore; beggars can’t be choosers and all that. So shake and cry away, aracic.

(And you’re right, Serend1pity: Imaan would have absolutely brought the fresh and the bombshell vibe in equal measure. And not even worked up a sweat in doing so.)
