I really like how this season in particular has challeged my notions of which color combos 'work'. Black & brown immediately comes to mind, but others too. For instance I usually see black and yellow and think that if I wear it I'll come out looking like a bumble bee! But this doesn't give that impression.

Maybe if there were stripes I'd have to pass it up. :p

Feel free to add more. I'd love to see a red & green outfit that doesn't shout "Christmas elf".

Great idea for a thread! :flower:

^I actually love yellow and black, when done correctly, like that look posted above. Luella makes yellow and black look luscious too. Very rock 'n' roll!

Marc Jacob's fall collection featured a lot of forest green/khaki, and red, which seemed a strange combination to me, but it worked well with the layering.

I <3 yellow and black. Yellow and brown makes me thinks of Brownies, though.

don't be timid! Wear your yellow and black combo with "attitude" :flower: I think that color combo looks great!

The color layering at Marc Jacobs was done with very neutral/earth tone colors, that's why it worked so well.

On the other hand the yellow and black combo, never been a fan of it. But it was fine at the DKNY F/W 06.07 show since yellow took the backseat and was only featured in small detailing.

And I don't think green and red can work together, unless they are each toned down. Unless you're a christmas tree. :innocent:

Please add the label/designer, season and year when posting runway pictures. Thank you. :flower:

I personally have never minded red&green, as long as one of them is a tone down neutural.

Yellow and purple! A bit tricky, but i love the contrast.
The first pic is from this past fall collection, and the second is from fall 2006 (style.com)

 the powder blue and the taupe/brown... In fact, I love brown with many colors... I think brown and mint green are great, as well as brown and a light, light pink.

I agree that yellow & black are to die for when both are paired, it's really gorgeous complimented together. I've even enjoyed seeing those two coloured combined in the bumble bee striped look, & the Luella piece is just absolutely wonderful.

Yellow and black wont do for me..(both colors have a tendency to drain me) on the other hand I really do like yellow and grey (going to have to keep the yellow away from my face tho').

^ great example Hanne, grey and yellow go so well together and it's very 'now'

I don't like the black/yellow combo, the grey/yellow version does work though... but I prefer bright yellow tones instead of mustard yellow or ocher-ish tones...

I adore purple and orange together. I don't know how unusual of a combination that is, though, as it speaks very naturally of autumn to me.

^I agree. I love orange and purple, as long as it's done subtly. I like this look on Patricia Schmid (her own clothes).

Black and dark blue. although it's not really an unlikely combo. i love the idea of wearing dark blue patent shoes with a black dress.

^^Thought of your blue/black comment when I saw this from Zac Posen, style.com.
