US Elle July 2012 : Selena Gomez by Carter Smith

Finally! I love this, too! I was so sick of the white background + over-photoshopped cover stars shot with harsh flash... I'm glad she's not pulling a cheesy smile or trying hard to look sophisticated.

^ Yes, she's wearing Balmain F/W 12.13

The freshest outcome happened from this industry so far. It's about time they move on from the outdated white background covers. The 'SELENA' seals the deal for me, it's fresh, interesting and eyecatching.

Could not have said it better myself. I love everything about this cover!

In terms of styling and Selena herself, it's really A+. The hair, Balmain, attitude - it's pretty perfect. The SELENA isn't too horrible, I think they might have been trying to have some fun with it, so I can't blame them.

The yellow does nothing for it, though. It detracts from an otherwise stunning photo, which makes her look really mature for someone who's a Disney starlet. The coverlines insist on hurting my eyes, as well. I guess this cover is a solid B+, B-?

This is the worst month for covers I can remember in a long time

are adult women really interested in selena gomez though? she is purely a tweener star at this point.

It looks like a cheesy British tabloid cover. Like Grazia or something. The yellow background is really awful and it makes Selena look washed-out.

Yellow gets used so often by those weekly magazines that it's become a devalued colour in my mind. It's fine for tabloid publications to use it for emphasis on their covers, but I don't associate the shade with anything "premium" anymore.

the SELENA font is bad but otherwise its a nice cover love the colours and image

Agreed, she's a strange choice to me. I also found the "Why Hollywood fashion can't get enough of her" tagline bizarre, she's far from a young fashion icon. [Not trying to be insulting here, just really don't think she's that fashion involved or well-dressed].

I also don't find the concept innovative, I find it a downgrade for Elle, it looks more like Cosmo with the cheesy "Selena!" and bright background.

She does look pretty on the cover though, and the Balmain was the perfect choice.

I have no problem with her as a cover star (I think her and Bieber are cute together :ninja:) and I love how they styled that Balmain piece. It looks great worn as a dress. I'm not a fan of the yellow and don't like all the text but this is easily the most exciting US Elle cover in years. I dig the "Selena" font, too.

The problem is the girl (well, and the font and colours, too). She is so cheap looking she can't pull off high fashion.

And nobody in fashion cares enough about her. Misleading title. Did her PR team come up with that?

At first, I assumed the obstructive 'Selena' was a watermark.

The cover would've been great if she was standing in the sunlight, somewhere in a desert or something like that.

I'm tired of seeing teenyboppers on the covers of magazines aimed at adult women. Leave the Selena Gomezes to Teen Vogue and Seventeen. I don't know any adult women who are checking for these Disney girls.

^I do agree yet I have to say its the most interesting cover theyve put out this year and she is gorgeous and I love that Balmain:heart:

I wonder if Elle has done some research to see what the age range of women are buying this magazine and if they found that it was a lot of teenage girls. Maybe that would explain the choice of Selena? Though, I'm only twenty myself, just out of the "teenage" phase, and I never really cared for Selena or her boyfriend (even if they are nice people) so I guess someone like her is not going to be everyone cup of tea.
