US Elle September 2013 : Kate Upton by Carter Smith

i dont get it when people compare her covers and success to other models out right now. She is on a completely different level. She is more a celebrity model than a regular model. She didnt start on the runway or in some major campaign. She went viral online and was on the cover of SI and now is about to star in a big budget movie. She is something that America can relate to because she isnt the "typical" build of a model and she and her agency marketed the hell out of her. Its something to commend

Many models dream about becoming a model with celebrity status just like Cindy, Naomi, Kate in the 90's. Kate managed to do all of that and snagged this Elle cover!
Also, something many people don't know about Kate is that she really didstart as a regular ol' model. She used to pound the pavement in the secondary markets like Hamburg, Berlin and Miami for years before she moved onto NYC. She's been modeling for 6 years. Her breakthrough as a model was her F/W2010 Guess campagin which came before her appearance in SI and the Dougie video. She made some daring and unconventional moves with her career as she was just a regular ol' catalog model with "Supermodel/Fashion Editorial Star/Media Mogul" ambitions. She's come a long way and this Elle cover just speaks power.

I don't like Kate's editorial much. It screams average, though she is glamourous. Just like Karlie's - nothing special.

I really like that in Kate's ed the emphasis for once is on her legs, not on her breasts. Especially in the last picture...she has legs for days!

I really like Kate's editorial. I like Karlie's too believe it or not, I like it when she's styled like that. It's much better than when VS tries to sex her up in knickers, cause that just never works in my opinion.

...also rather disappointed in Amber Heard's ed. every time I watch her in movies I always say how beautiful she looks yet her beauty just doesn't seem to translate into print. She looks tired and bored in that ed.

Very underwhelming issue overall. I would assume they would at least make an effort for the September issue but it all pretty much looks phoned in.

I like the cover, but i don't really like the red dress she's in. It looks too mediocre..

Are there any editorials using just model-models and not any celebrity-models (like Kate and Karlie?)

Flipped through the issue today, it's a pretty nice Sept issue in my opinion.

There are more fashion eds, the one i remember is Tian Yi styled by Lori Goldstein and Arthur Elgort also shot an ed starring Lindsay Ellingson and his son, Ansel Elgort.

Thank you for the info!

Saw it in the store today and there's a really lovely editorial with Carolina Sjostraand!
