US Harper’s Bazaar April 2019 : Alicia Vikander by Mariano Vivanco

One thing about the cover with Alicia: I think she's too settle with her facial expressions as she normally does when in motion, and this is the result of that: a boring, basic picture. One thing that I learn from Miss Tyra Banks on ANTM is that sometimes you need to exagerate your emotions in front of the camera so the end result is more dynamic and exciting.

US Bazaar and U.K. Bazaar are the same in that one knows exactly what to expect but when they do it right it’s hard to complain. Maybe it’s because I’m totally over winter that all these blue skies were totally welcomed.

I actually think there's still a lot of potential at this magazine. The UK edition follows a hyper-feminine romantic approach which works for them because it's evolved and defined. This edition could very easily be the modern counterpart of that. Because when you ignore Alicia's cringey LV sponsored cover story, and Elle's corny teen edit, you're actually left with three really contemporary edits with a strong 'American' sensibility, in terms of fashion. Throw in the foodie story, and the entire set of edits look luxe and chic. Glenda should just push her team to come up with content that at least differ from one another in terms of setting, yet still follows a more streamlined approach. This whole scattered Jekyll & Hyde way of editing is holding her magazine back.

I feel the same way about Bazaar. There’s always some cringeworthy parts that diminish the more solid parts but the actual issues always do feel luxe. If they were to tweak some of the weak stuff it would be really good.

I would just love an actual issue where everyone brought their A game. This is where I find Glenda seriously lacks as an editor. She settles for some B list effort from her team.

I’m completely disregarding the written content which is not even worth discussing.
