US Vogue August 2009 : Christy Turlington by Steven Klein

really nice cover. so much better than last month's

Nice to see a model on the cover, she looks a bit overairbrushed but the pose is at an interesting angle in terms of what we would expect from a normal cover.

I like this cover for 3 things:
1. It's a model! Christy Turlington! Woah! :D
2. It's something new for the 2009 covers
3. This issue really is about AGE!

Why they have a celebrity photographer shoot a model and a fashion photographer shoot a celeberity, I will never understand.

i don't like christy. but she's a model, so this cover gets my instant approval.

anna's on a role with the cover choices. (minus june and july)

^ Is this her first 21st century US VOGUE cover?

I like this cover, and I don't totally understand why everybody is hating it.
It's a model, and she looks good, IMO. But it's US Vogue, and I think, since Anna doesn't seem to be changing, we should except it for what it is. With text overload and all. It's not going to change anytime soon, sorry. :ninja:

i actually like the cover! glad that it's a model!!! YAY for Christy!!! she looks great!

though i was really expecting that the Nine cast would grace the cove in a fold-out one. but nevertheless, still happy for the cover.

can't wait for the content!

Yes, there is way too much text but I'm sick of actresses's plugging their movies so this is a nice change for US Vogue

Nope, she was on the october 2002 cover shot by Steven Klein.

By the way, here is a tip: go to fashion-iconography.net. you can see almost all of the Vogue covers through the decades. :flower:

are August issues usually thick or just normal!?

normal sized, but since 2009 is the year that vogue has lost lots of advertisers i'm guessing it's gonna be as thick as may 2009

That's not so bad, at least it's a model... not a so recent one... but...!
Just dislike the colours... too much pink.

Christy looks like a robotic cyborg Joan Crawford-look-alike (those crazy eyes, those cheekbones!) Stepford Wife who just committed a terrible crime, cleaned herself up, and threw on a fabulous gown and posed in her garden for some society photographer, who she is trying to seduce with her feline cougar expression. And that is why I absolutely LOVEEEEEEEEEE this cover!!!! Definitely my favorite American Vogue cover of the year! It's so unintentionally macabre and creepy that I can't help myself! And the fact that she is so provocatively showing her photoshopped beyond recognition leg only makes things better! Plus, Christy is such a regal presence and it is always nice to her on the cover of magazine. Once again, thanks for the surprise Vogue! This is so much better than anything with the cast of Nine could have ever been! Here's hoping that September is just as fabulously freaky!

Also, I am so happy to see that Cindy Sherman is featured in this issue! She is one of my favorite artists. So humorous, so creepy, so thought-provoking! In fact, the Christy cover looks like one of the various archetypical characters Cindy has enacted! And she looks fabulous in that gown! Love her!

^^

I soo agree, the more i look at it, the more i like how creepy she actually looks, and now you sealed it with that description.

^! The Mommie Dearest garden scene keeps running through my head when I look at this cover! "TINAAAAAAAAAAAAA, THE AXE!!!" Christy's resemblance to Joan is so uncanny!!! God, I adore this! They should have done a totally Joan Crawford themed editorial with Christy. Then I would completely explode in excitement!
