US Vogue January 2011 : Natalie Portman by Peter Lindbergh

Actually I'm kinda liking the color palette, pastel is very good. But I'm not too sure if this is appropriate for a new year cover. Makes it look all dull and uninteresting. Spring 2011 had a lot of bold & bright colours, sad that they didn't use it. :(

I Litle boring Im disappointed

A comment by LiveJournal user Shrubrub describes the outfit choice perfectly:
Here's a question: Why oh why would they put her in a J Mendel dress that looks like Rodarte when Rodarte had a role in the costuming of Black Swan, which Natalie is promoting? Not to mention she always goes to their shows...

It seems almost blasphemous.

The last two J. Mendel collections have been inspired by prima ballerinas and Gilles designed the costumes for the New York City ballet. I like Rodarte, but they aren't the only game in town and I think it was a smart choice not to outfit her in their designs since she's become quite associated with the brand due to Black Swan. Plus J. Mendel isn't really a brand that is pushed in our faces by Vogue (at least not recently) so it gives someone else a time to shine on the cover, which I think is very cool, all things considered.

You know what I find even more irritating than their boring covers? Their ***-kissing interviews with boring actresses!

 That's what "offends" me the most about celebrities getting covers. Like, fine if they are attractive and the photo is nice I don't really care if they have the cover. But their lame interviews are what bug me, unless they are particularly interesting (which is almost never).

The cover is nice enough though. I don't feel too strongly about it one way or the other.

I think a may actually like the cover. Right hand position is a bit odd and the whole cover looks retouched (as expected), but I do kind of like it. It was also a big surprise to see J. Mendel on the cover! I dont really see his clothes in edits let alone covers!

hoo boy... I'm glad last month's issue was so crap because it eases the blow of seeing this disappointing cover, but it doesn't help that her earlier 'pink cover' is so similar to the new one. I'm going to look past it and hope the content is excellent.

As the quote "expect the unexpected" states, I would have liked to have seen something unexpected. A more modern take on the obvious romantic/ballet vibe they were going for. Yeah she's pretty but this is uninspiring and dull. Oh wait, it's US Vogue...

Hmmm i don't really feel the cover, Natalie looks a little like Jessica Alba to me, the pose is akward and the hair is not the best they could do, boring. I like the 2002 cover a lot more.

it's on the fence of being subtle, elegant and boring. There's no excitement.

Simple but very beautiful cover!

Yeah, I like it. The photography is very good here. The lighting is soft and gorgeous. Tho the awkward hand pose is not a plus, its still a nice cover.

I like it because it's subtle and I think it will look incredible in print.
I simply ADORE Natalie and I've just been dying to see what magazine covers she would land for her promotion for Black Swan and I think this is just lovely.

Much better than i expected ! Even though it doesn't pay justice to the duality of Natalie's performance in The Black Swan (between "the good girl" and "the provocative role" they have chosen their side !) But i like the uncluttered line of the photo, simplicity is always better than a sophisticated prententious big mess !

After Anne Hathaway's great cover they had bad covers, first Angelina and now this.
She looks kind of uncomfortable.

I quite like the cover. Natalie looks very beautiful and the cover is very simple but quite lovely.

I'm on the fence with this. Overall, I don't like the whole cover but then again I'm such a huge fan of Natalie so I really wanna like it.

Each month I hope Anna Wintour will finally decide to do something new/different..
Apparently she never will..
