US Vogue May 2007 World's Next Top Models by Steven Meisel

I just read this issue and man was it disappointing. After such heated discussion on this thread I thought the cover was boring, and the issue itself was an incredible let down. Ugh.

Hmm, just saw and read the mag at the bookstore. I thought to myself:

"I bet there is a thread starting about this at tfs. I'll go home and post some great comment like, 'where the hell is Freja?', or 'Aren't some of these girls top models already?' or 'Who's Chanel?'"

...59 pages later...I'm exhausted...my Freja comment has been mentioned about a gazillion times...as have the others...

Do you ever get that feeling that you're out of your depth?

Just got the issue!

Hit Girls. The editorial and article we've already seen. Meisel.
Fashioning the Century. Article & Natalia V editorial. Meisel.
The Individualists. Article on Dries Van Noten and Marni. There are two-pagers showing their looks.
For Dries: Maybe Julia S? (I'm not positive there), Tanya D, Hilary, Hana & Irina.
For Marni: Raquel, Bette & Julia S. (This one I know is Julia! :p )
Articles on Susie Buffett, Alexandra von Furstenberg, and a guy who bakes bread
Criminally Chic. Article with a one page picture of Angela Lindvall :woot: in stocks by Irving Penn.
Dress Me, Kate. Article on Kate featuring Lily Cole and three other models.
Bohos in Paradise. ph Inez & Vinoodh (surprising but true). Editorial! But only Doutzen & Raquel.

Also a picture of Stam in a Sustainable Style feature and a Natalia V outtake (I think) from her last ed & absolutely gorgeous pictures of Angela (ph Matthias Vriens) in the Index pages! That should've been a full ed!

I appreciated the Alexandra Von Furstenberg article. I was wondering what happened to her. The house looks tasteful.

the only section of that magazine that i liked was the swimsuit thing with Angela Lindvall. They hyper photoshopped Stam's face, which barely made her recognizable and she didn't even have a large edit! And the 'Hit Girls' article was very lame. This issue was terrible!

Finally got this today! Haven't finished yet, saving the more interesting looking parts for a longish drive later today.

I think Stam looked great in her solo shot, in fact her picture was the best in the whole magazine, Raquel looked pretty good in her single shot too.

This issue was my first Vogue issue and also the first US magazine I have bought. The hit girls edit was pretty alright, though I expected a much larger edit about the girls. Overall I'm very disappointed with the issue and if you remove the hit girls edit and the Kate Moss editorials then the issue is pure horse crap. Almost all articles were boring and dry, and don't be fooled by me being a man. In the past i have read women's magazines which I have enjoyed. :p

I'll probably never buy a US magazine again. Magazines back home in Europe are sooooooooooooooo much better. Shame on you Anna.

People who don't like US vogue go and buy what you like and let us enjoy US vogue how it is. I can't wait to see the next issue, I wonder who will be on the cover

I finally got the magazine too. This is my first Vogue US in almost 2 years. All the drama over this issue on TFS here probably had something to do with me buying it... :p

Agreed. Even if they have another model cover for the next issue, I probably won't buy it again. Although, i did think that Natalia's ed was SO beautiful, and I quite liked the articles by Hamish Bowles. But other than that, Vogue US is sleep inducing at best.

I hated that Marina Rust article on beauty victims ("Criminally Chic"). WHAT was the point of that? Why does Vogue's beauty columns always have to inject plastic thoughts into women's minds?

I forgot to mention Natalie's ed. Her beauty is breath taking, her lips and eyes are to die for. I'll probably not buy the next issue unless it feature and drop dead gorgeous ed.

i like the list..but like some others already mentioned...arent some of the girls top models already? like sasha and lily and stam. they werent on the cover last time werent they? maybe that's why.
however..i dont know about agnyess though. she's not around long enough to really say if she's a next top. and yes...where is freja? though im not especially fond of freja, but it doesnt make sense that she's not on the list.
the cover is boring..really boring.

i agree with homeboy up there about US magazine not being so great. US vogue really do suck. but V magazine is from the US and it doesnt suck.
im probably gonna boy this issue for keepsakes

If you look close enough, you'll find other odd comments, such as ones about the definition of 'supermodel' or what people really think of Kate Moss.

...and these are just recent comments!

I'm a little concerned...I liked the issue..Should i seek help or a 12 step program or something??

^I liked the issue, although I found it a bit disappointing in terms of editorials and such (but what's new, really). If you're going to resort to a 12-step program, then I guess I should go, too :D

^Sign me up, I like any publication with the work of Inez & Vinoodh

I find myself buying US Vogue only because of their great articles lately, not becuase of edits.I think they have the best written articles and i truly enjoy them, while our magazines in Europe couldnt be more boring.:innocent:

^US Vogue definitely has fantastic articles. I like to think that the combination of their articles + Vogue Italia's editorials would make a super Vogue.

a powerful model is, for example, Linda Evangelista, she ruled how much they sould be paid and got it, she convinced designers to use Naomi Campbell, she said "if Naomi is not catwalking, me neither", and they hired them.
I think it was turlie who said that. As for the cover, I would say I'm not impressed. It might be Anna's way of telling the world that she, and only she, has got the word on who will be fashion's next superstars and not some aging, Naomi-wannabe, former supermodel. (I'm sorry but I really don't like that girl on tv)
