Looks like Anna finally scored a win over Edward. Huge get, huge story.

The cover and ed are fantastic, it's their best of September in a long time.

Certainly blows last year’s tragic mess of a cover out of the water! I’m hoping we get at least one really strong fashion editorial that isn’t shared content.

That shot in the red dress is from a previous issue?

Sorry, my love, my bad: it's by Annie Leibovitz from US Vogue April 2015!

I'll ask our precious mods to remove it.

A sport and a star I genuinely don’t care about.

Composition is as safe as it gets: sunset/sunrise, the beach, pastels..

I will say, of all these corny and obnoxiously solemn ‘world: this is the child I made’ covers where celebrities introduce their kids in society with excessive pride and the ‘honor’ of Vogue like they’re royalty, handing out the breadcrumbs ‘reigns’ of exposure so their ‘legacy’ lives on and the consumer has no option but to endure them AND the mediocrity and watered down everything of their children just because they say so, this is a nice and refreshing take where the child is not really on the cover or even in the middle, she’s present and almost necessary in the ‘life after tennis’ theme but pushed to the edge so it’s clear that’s not a part of the product and it’s still very much about the mom.

Beautiful cover, I love everything about it! The colours of the sky are stunning and I love getting a full body shot for September.

This has such a tranquil feeling to it that I really appreciate. The story is particularly lovely; it sort of reminds me of when Demarchelier or Testino would do that relaxed-glamour look for their US Vogue shoots, which always works well for this magazine. I haven’t heard of Luis Alberto Rodriguez before, but if they do more work like this I’d love for them to become a regular cover photographer.

It’s nice to see Serena land the September cover. It feels right when one of Anna’s favourites finally gets it and, now that I think about it, I’m surprised it’s taken this long… although it looks like Vogue scored a great scoop with the story so it’s worked out well for everyone.

I hope the contents live up to this and that the ‘Fashion’s New World’ cover line indicates a refreshed energy in the magazine from now on. There’s been some nice covers this year but I’m looking for US Vogue to prove why it’s the most famous fashion mag. A beautiful cover with a compelling cover star and an exclusive story is a great start, let’s hope it continues!

This isn't deserving of a September issue, it just isn't. But if this means no more Vogue covers for her. I'm relieved.

At the very least its not terrible, but September issues have fallen very far if its just simply been made about the retirement of a famous athlete.

She's an expected cover star for Vogue US, Anna loves her tennis players. Good for her to score an exclusive.

I like the cover, and the editorial is nice as well. It's relaxing and the styling feels authentic to her. Serena is not good at pulling too fashionable looks so styling her with classic silhouettes evening is a great choice.

I wish she was a little bit more centered and since this is the September issue the editorial can be longer. I mean this is Serena's retirement, she deserves more than 7 pages of editorial.

This is a major scoop for Anna, she literally broke the news and the cover and Ed look nice.

This is gorgeous, the best she’s looked for Vogue. The colors are just wonderful and really bring out her beauty and strength in a way that’s soft and inviting (something Annie’s been unable to accomplish in the many times she’s shot her). I can’t say this is the most exciting September cover considering the NDAs and hype, but it makes sense as her retirement is big news.

So glad I kept my expectations low.
Very disappointing. Could have been the October cover. Yes, Serena was a very talented tennis player, but she was also a very poor sport most times she lost a match (yelling at refs, throwing rackets being rude to her fellow players).
Vogue is not Sports Illustrated - I think Anna forgets that sometimes.

My favorite Vogue of hers! Although I never understand the hype (speaking only within the fashion industry) around her, it must be something more for Americans...

Nothing against her (although she always looks a mess on any of these fashion rags). However, this type of aesthetic is what amateur hopefuls on ModelMayhem circa 2006 would churn out, while shallowly referencing Herb and Annie with their copies of Vanity Fair. At best, it’s deserving of consumer-end product shots for the local Bikini Village mini-catalogue. It’s just so cheap looking in every way.

American Vogue has finally lowered and pandered to the level of outlet shoppers and discount-mall masses. Anna always knows the direction of the uninspired masses, I’ll give her that.

The colors are pretty and her daughter looks adorable there.
