Vacant is a new project that is brand new that already generated enourmous amount of publicity in NY during the fashion week. It's a concept of "moving store". NY is the first stop, since now, every six month there will be a new store set up in different cities for an entire month where local talents/designers ( not necessarily fashion, but largely covers in fashion/graphic design/art/culture/streetstyle areas.) would be showcased and various special events would be taken place. NY is the first and then it'll be in LA, London, Paris,Tokyo, Bruxell, and Stockholm. Not only local young talents would have great ops to the international exposure but it serves as a potential liasion to connect between different fashion/design/culture capitals. In NY, Keenan Duffy ( formerly designed for Slingky Vagbound, Biritish designer that is based in NY.) already had his show held in the store, ( Mercer/Grand), Zaldy's show was there too.
During the month of Feb. there'll be the NY fashion vs.LA fashion exhibition and NY fashion vs.London fashion exhibition and Michelle Mason collection showcasing in the store.

I personally was amazed how brilliant and innovative this concept was.
It surely is a gigantic, ambitious project and it's very close to my heart.
It's founded by a very close friend of mine.

anyone who's interested in it, feel free to go to www.govacant.com

Congratualations to your friend from Athens  BabyA
and thanks for sharing with us :D

I went to the Vacant party tonight, it was really great.
full of energy and lots of fun.
it was such a great party.

I'll be definitely passing the message to the founder,
Leyla, i think it's highly feasible.
I have enormous respect and affection for this gentleman for coming up this gigantic project at a very young age and successfully executing it without any outside financial backups.

I also think it's great :D Oh and i have a question, can anyone just go and check out these parties, the reason why im asking is because i noticed a DJ event that iam terribly curious about

i've visited the -very interesting- site, now I'm going to contact them for Press info and visuals to print yesss :D their choice of designers/editions is great, love the project

i wish i had known about this before.. i would have included them in my mag :D :o

this is just a fab idea!
will keep track on the net! (due to the obvious reason that the project wont come 300 miles near here!)

you never know.
Actually this gentleman, aka the founder, was just talking about moving to Spain to me this afternoon. :D and notice the project isn't just showing talents from local city. For example, Michelle Mason is an LA based designer but this time she showcased her collection in NY at Vacant store, which means anyone talented and ambitious could enjoy the international exposure by the connection through the Vacant project.

please do keep track on the website, and i'll be gladly serving as the liasion between the project and tfs.

So it'll still be in NYC in June, right? (crosses fingers)
If so, I'm defiantley checking it out. thanks for the info Babya.

dear Pfwoot, the store will be closed acturally this coming Friday, unfortunately. ( it is open for an entire month every six month in a different city.) But you can always check out its website to see which city will be the next project location or what limited edition will be featured through mailing list. Or you can always ask/pm me, it'll be my pleasure. :D

Robin Williams just visited the store and bought some limited editon Puma and CD and toys for his son about $500, he was such a gentleman.
and i believe there are three parties this week before the store folds.

I'll have to see if I can check it out somewhere else then!

oh i'm sorry to hear that, but you know what?
i'm sure it'll come to cities near you very soon,
and i'll try to take pictures next time ( probably in LA in next season's fashion week. will get back to you on that.)

i'm glad you're interested in the project.
