Valentino Left Red-Faced by Oscars Boast
10s.jpg
Designer Valentino was left as red-faced as the Oscars red carpet on Sunday when the three superstars he boasted would be wearing his gowns, chose other outfits. Valentino issued a press release to the media the day before the Academy Awards, claiming Keira Knightley, Jennifer Lopez and Uma Thurman would hit the red carpet wearing his dresses - but the three lovely ladies opted for Vera Wang, vintage and Versace, respectively.

From IMDB

I knew I hadn't seen any Valentino's. Why. Why would you do that. Celebs always change their minds. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact he would ONLY dress Cate last year and people thought he would do the same this year.

I read him say that celebrities would be wearing his dresses and I looked forwards to seeing it but I was confused because no one wore any of his dresses.

It's okay. Valentino is one of the greatest designers ever. I"m sure we'll see his creations at up-coming red carpet events.

No he really cant! He is no less tacky than most of his bling bling Italian cohorts. Ok maybe a little less tacky than Cavalli but not the others.

^WHAT?! Are you insane?! Valentino is know for his old-Hollywood glamour and elegance. No way is he tacky! *Eyes bulging out of sockets*

I don't find him tacky at all. Boring as hell and totally unimaginative, yes. Tacky, no. Safe clothes for boring women like Marie-Chantal of Greece, the Valentino woman by excellence.
The only tacky piece I have ever seen from him is that horrible dress Scarlett wore for the Golden Globes, even through I suspect Scarlett would make Balenciaga and Chanel look tacky, so...

no no no!
i understand you may not LIKE valentino's clothes but he is EVERYTHING but tacky. and these are facts B)

lol , ok no, seriously, some of his clothes are not my style either but the tailoring is almost couture-like, and the stuff is really classy on a close-up

I have a Valentino dress that I found at a thrift store OMG you won't believe the way I had a panic attack when I found out it was 8 bucks. These people did NOT know what they were dealing with! I hope it's authentic but ... who would counterfit a VALENTINO DRESS!

Ugh. I have never ever wanted to wear a Valentino gown. Maybe you are right Harumi -boring as hell could be it. But it is a boring as hell in the sense that Monica Bellucci would wear it. Dont get me wrong -I love her to death -but her clothes are always that flash of flesh type of Southern European gown. That is tacky in my book.

Agreed!!!

He may be one of the last ones from the old league, but the clothes that he does seem neither contemporary, nor nicely nostalgic to me. They just look stiff as a bone...

to each their own I guess. I am really not a fan of valentino's boring and uncreative designs.... his creations leave me cold because of their tackiness.... :yuk:

and it's not like the "trio" chose anything better either.... :innocent:
