Vanity Fair August 2014 : The Royal Family

This looks very VF Italy, very cheap to use a pap shot imo...

So strange, there are so many celebrities right now who have movies to promote and yet they go with this for a cover. I mean Prince George is a cute baby, but how much can really be said about him at this point. Give him a cover when he can speak for himself :rofl:

Bringing Kim at the table, why is Kate any better than her? They both do nothing. I don't like this cover, Vanity Fair has no standards at all.

Right, exactly, why even make me choose between those two when there are, as Luxx touched on, a million better choices out there.

Clearly there are many who do otherwise they wouldn't actually be on the cover, would they. They sell. Vanity Fair aren't idiots.

^ That wasn't the question.

Thanks Elfinkova :flower::lol:

My statement as honeycombchild interpreted it would have been a rhetorical one. I know there are thousands of Americans who fawn over the romantic fantasy of royalty, I just don't understand why. And that was my question, not whether we do, but what is the reason for that. And I'd gladly welcome any other international cover subject who actually, you know, did something. At least Kim K is on our television screens (not that she should actually be worthy of appearing on magazine covers ever, but still).

Since when are covers reserved only for celebrities who have something to promote?

What are the requirements for a covergirl anyway? A starlet who happens to be in a summer blockbuster? A reality tv personality whose claim to fame is a sex tape? A 17-year old from Denmark who happened to catch the eye of a powerful industry photographer? A woman whose husband is a president?

He literally grew up in front of everyone's eyes and is second in line to a Royal throne. She became an international celebrity and a style icon following her engagement to him. Their wedding was televised world-wide and was probably one of the most talked about events ever. The birth of the baby was also widely anticipated and discussed. Who are the million choices out there who deserve a cover more?

No, Vanity Fair covers are not solely reserved for celebrities with something to promote, there are no hard and fast rules except that the editors have chosen to put someone on the cover.

Still that doesn't mean that we can't question their choices. For some a picture of a famous infant makes perfect sense as a cover choice - for me it just seems meh. It would be one thing if they had a nice official portrait or some special commissioned shot to accompanying the fluffy article but they didn't.

If anyone really wants to know about the riveting first year of the royal spawn they are more than welcome to pick up a copy, personally I would rather see Zoe Saldana, Cameron Diaz, Michael Fassbender, Melissa McCarthy, Scarlett Johansson, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, or any of the other celebrities with a film set for the coming months. Are they more deserving? No. No one really deserves a magazine cover, but I prefer to see new, original photography or a cover story on someone old enough to eat solid foods. I respect that Graydon and team went for a story that has broad appeal, but I'm just not their target demo on this one.

Additionally I would take an athlete, a politician, a model, a picture of Grumpy Cat - anything over a badly cropped paparazzi picture.

I'm just glad it's another Vanity Fair cover with people who are alive. :rolleyes:

It's kind of a shame that Margot Robbie didn't get the cover with those shots. I'm always a sucker for their starlet-on-a-beach editorials (see: Emma Stone, Lindsay Lohan).

Yeah, the one on the diving board would have made a great cover in my opinion.

The closeup smile or the "red" photo would have made nice covers. I wonder if she was shot for the cover before VF decided to go with the Royal Bore
