Versace F/W 2016.17 : Gigi Hadid & Karlie Kloss by Bruce Weber

Versace is that you? I think that Weber wasn´t the right photographer... this feels so domestic. The only image close enough to the label´s attitude is the second one but still is not something I´d expect to see from them.

Gross.

The flat, depressing lighting; the generic, department-store catalogue styling; no energy nor humour; the tiresome concept; the cheapness of it all….

The 2nd spread is just offensive with the shameless, crass commercialism of the excessive bag-pimping. And the ugly 80’s Enrico Coveri placement of the logo. Just cheap cheap cheap and gross gross gross.

Bruce needs to go away for a while cos he’s clearly burnt out and doesn’t care anymore.

Now that you guys have brought up a valid point about it feeling like a catalog, I can see it - but I appreciate the change in direction. It was clear that Versace couldn't survive on sex appeal alone anymore.

Bruce Weber pushes his models into our faces and screams: Look at these supermodels! I'm gonna make another Cindy Crawford out of them!

someone wake him up from 90's please?

I like it. I like and i'm not afraid of changes...even if it's more a throwback than a new fresh direction.
For any 90's kid, it looks like old school Versace/Weber's ads.
Avedon ads were sexy!
Versace has always been about real life...under Gianni at least.

It's cheesy, old school but it has emotion and the Bag shot is so good. Maybe my favorite bag shot since the Fendi/Lindvall one.
+I love that she offered clothes and shoes to the guys.

This is not worse than the 2007 campaigns by Testino.

My favorite shot out of the three is the one with Karlie surrounded by the guys holding the bags, because that's the only image which truly represents what Versace is all about. I'm all for brands taking their image down a different route but you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. This will take some getting used to!

Teen Moms? Seriously..... WTF am I looking at?
Weird casting.
Perhaps the worst Versace campaign in history.

Bring back real Versace women!

Love the interracial shoutout, however Versace marketing as some sort of "family apparel" is a joke.

so boring, Versace is sexy this look a editorial for American Vogue

This really does give catalog vibes. There's nothing about it that would make me pause mid-flip in a magazine.

This is Chico's with delusions of grandeur.

I mean this neutered, gentrified and yuppified, we grow our own kale and let our children self-soothe looking nonsense isn't Versace. Hell, it isn't even Versace's in-law's cousin once removed.

"For me, this was kind of a turning point. Versace's image is so much about the red carpet. But I wanted to make day clothes fierce. You know: she's a superstar, and she runs her business, and she runs her family too. Fashion is a part of life, and I thought it was important to show that it could be a part of many different lives. That it could help you in your life. It's not about creating beautiful illusions anymore.

So I get what they're trying to do and I think it's wise. You can't always give us sexpot bombshell, even if that is the spirit of the brand. But here's the thing, you have to show your audience a transition. A glamazon can also be a successful businesswoman and have a family, etc. So why not shoot a woman like Alessandra Ambrosio, Carolyn Murphy, Gisele, etc. Someone who can actually sell the vision and pick a photographer like Meisel who would've elevated this from the mundane to something that sells the glamour a bit more.

I love this, love the change, love the different vibe they focused on, and love that she picked Weber, just perfect all around!

I think it's absolutely genius! I love it.
I bet it will turn out to be one of the best campaigns this season.
It's a very bold move and I think a smart one. It's definitely going to create buzz.
The retro generic catalog vibes are super cool, and I think the art direction and photography are on point.
You can see it's very well made I think.

I understand the concept, the execution is just shoddy. It is possible to evolve the idea of the versace woman away from sexy glamazon without her feeling so pedestrian and ordinary.

these look like next catalogue outtakes.

This is terrible. I don't mind the whole family concept, but what's missing is the sex appeal and glamour. They could have done the family concept in a way that wasn't RL catalogue or even US Vogue editorial-esque. Also what bothers me is both Gigi and Karli are lacking chemistry with the male models and their "families". Gigi looks like the babysitter. They needed someone whose more mature. Models such as Adrianna, Doutzen, Natasha, or Mariacarla would have been perfect.

As a general campaign it's good, but as a Versace campaign - it's such a let down! Gigi kinda looks like shes being abducted in her family pic

I wouldn't have used Gigi and Karlie again, personally.
