I actually like the balenciaga ones They'll definatly make more manejable ones when they hit stores, I think the s/s were wearable but they even lowered those. The balenciagas and chloes are my favorite.
Here are a few that I love that haven't been posted. All pics from style.com.
These look so good with short, voluminous skirts; I thought I wouldn't like them before I considered the possibilities, but now I can't imagine a subverted doll-like look without them I'm reminded so much of both Gothic Lolita and an editorial I remember from a rather recent issue of Bazaar, in which the footwear of choice were platforms from such labels as you might spot in a fetish shop But the styling and other such adaptations permitted the release of that connotation; it was an eye-opening moment, and a defining one for les platforms. Or something.
and I'm not exactly tall, so I can't rightly use everyone's favourite dismissal, 'I'm not in need of platforms, not today,' anyhow...
I agree with Kimkhuu- I think they look chic. Never been a fan of platforms but most of the new ones coming out are beautiful. They're like sculptural art objects more than anything else- I probably can't manage walking in them, but I still want a pair anyway! Here is a great article from the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/13/f...ml?ex=1145246400&en=186aa8dc81e8e318&ei=5087
Normally I don't like platforms, but I have started to adapt to them. And they are actually quite fab when paired with a babydoll dress, as jennifer mentioned. some shorts, a tulip skirt with pockets etc. So it really depends on the styling. I don't think I will ever wear them, but I don't mind looking at them
But perhaps I should try wearing them, they will do wonders to my height.
i dont like platforms too much but with all the huge dresses and fashions out , these are the only type of shoes which pair them down. stilettoes would get lost and overwhelmed.
im sorry but i found balenciagas fall collection FUGLY...and those shoes are not ugly they are scary ...looks like hospital clogs meets tim burton horror movie.
btw...i saw the balenciaga platform ankle boots at neiman marcus last weekend, and they're gorgeous in person...
not as high as the runway versions (of course), but the same basic shape...
i believe the heel was 4.5"...
I don't know about the Balenciaga's, when I first saw them I thought they looked like shoes Frankenstein would own & I can't seem to get that image out of my head so there's no way I could ever wear them & feel the least bit flattering, but I am loving the Chloes & YSL platforms especially with the ribbed tights!
