Unpopular opinion: I quite like this show.
Designers don’t do those kind of very « reactive » collections and John has done a few at Dior.
I find the « exercise de style » interesting.
He was criticize for making costumes and turning Dior into a madhouse (if they only knew what he had in stores for them at that point) after the show at Austerlitz.
So SS99 RTW, SS99 HC and FW99 RTW were a response to those critics. It’s so commercial it hurts but there’s something charming about it. You can concentrate on the clothes.
I prefer the SS RTW but I think the coats and knitwear were fabulous here!
John is not really renowned for pants but he can cut a mean pair of pants! Those overalls! I wish I had one!
The présentation is such a mess…
Later that year, he renewed his contract and became responsible for all the womenswear activities for Dior Couture.
