Vionnet Haute Couture F/W 14.15 Paris

This dress is gorgeous. Everything else can go die in a fire. Seriously, what is the point of the fabric twirls on so many of the dresses? It doesn't look good and doesn't help the construction of the dresses.

May be he focused too much on the new technique. I appreciate how he treat the fabrics, but i can't stand those twirling details.

The garment and technique should be in balance, I see some hits and some misses.

i actually really love it....it's a refreshing shift from all the banality i've been following so far. i love the sea of pleat-work....makes me think of issey miyake being incorporated into the archives of vionnet and designed and executed in chalayan's mind. the textures and fabric combinations is something only somebody of chalayan's calibre can do.

Some are a little too Chalayan... but I do appreciate the update of the bias cuts. It's quite interesting for Vionnet; untypical, and unpredictable. Others would make Vionnet the typical romantic image while Chalayan gave us a different yet effective route.

That disastrous fourth look will be stuck in my memory forever.

that's one of the reasons they've revived this as "demi-couture" rather than the atypical HC. it's going to be a bit more concept driven thus more experimental than your usual outings from standard houses.

there are a few "misses" but by and large i really like it! that first dress in #3... oh how i'd love somewhere to wear that!

Unflattering dresses and quite outdated IMO. They also look poorly made. So not worth the money you are paying for.

Terrible, an insult to Madeleine Vionnet's legacy. It's a shame that this brand has never managed to find a fitted designer.

well this is just a curatorship for their seminal and highly ambitious demi-couture. it's not actually HC so i doubt vionnet wouldn't be that bothered since it's not a term or concept used till the mid-late 90's. also i'm surprised you would say that about chalayan since you bear one of his quotes in your siggy. i don't think it's an insult at all....you plainly see chalayan incorporating much of the vionnet essence here but putting a conceptual spin on it all. i think it's very progressive in both regards really as fashion has become so formula and staid...it's actually kind of nice that chalayan still has this side to him in this day and age.
