i hope i can put this here

from westwoods website:

Habeas Corpus, the fundamental law, the very key to democracy is being taken away from the British people.
Arbitrary arrest happened in Stalin’s Russia and was once the prerogative of kings, which in England led to Charles I having his head cut off: it is the mark of tyranny.
We are all at risk from Government. Anyone can be picked up and punished with an indefinite control order, without trial, never having had the chance, adequately, to defend themselves. Now the Government, proposes yet more powers to detain suspects, for up to three months, without even charging them with a criminal offence.

hree months, without even charging them with a criminal offence.
We ask the British people to imagine how they would feel if this happened to them or to an innocent person dear to them. It is happening now and can happen in the future.
This is being done because our Government says it is good for us; they know best and we must trust them. They are managing to do this under constant, new, anti-terror laws, relying on our understandable fears and the continuing spin of confusion.

Why can’t people suspected of terrorism be charged and given a fair trial? It is in our interest that they should be; one thing is clear, those people at present detained without trial were innocent of the London bombings.
In addition the Government is now trying to take away another of our basic freedoms, the independence of the judiciary. All the political judge bashing is as dangerous as all of the knee-jerk new laws.

The Liberty T-shirts are available for purchase as well as mail order from Vivienne Westwood's World's End boutique. T-shirts are available in sizes XS,S,M,L and XL priced £50. All profits from the sales go to "Liberty"
www.liberty-human-rights.org.uk
Baby bodysuits will be available soon in sizes
0-3, 3-6 and 6-9 months.

i cant copy the picture from the wesite to post here but the t-shirts are the ones from the s/s 06 uomo show that read "i am not a terrorist please dont arrest me" and stuff :flower:

i love it when fashion has some kind of political subtext:heart:

yeah, this made news here in mexico... and she is right

conspiracy theories abound, and it makes one wonder...

the t-shirts are white, slashed all around (very westwood, very punk) and with red typeface reading something along the lines of: "i'm not a terrorist, please dont detain me"

Since when is this?

since the london bombings, they held a LOT of people that didnt have anything to do with it

Didn't a guy get shot then too, and then it turned out he was innocent? or when was that?

Yes.....shortly after 21/7....a Brazilian man was shot at Stockwell coz he was running away from the police towards the tube train.

ok, thanks for clearing that up.

I agree with Victim about fashion having some kind of political subtext. Cause often you don't think about those two together, and since politics can be mixed with pretty much everything it's nice to see that a designer has thought about that. I'm sure most of them do but it's not always noticeable.

That T-Shirt was shown on the runway of the men's SS06 show, so it's actually a "real" collection piece. The show was also held some days before the bombings, so it seems that those T-shirts had nothing to do with the London bombings in the first place, but perhaps more to do with the general "mood" of the world today. Since the Liberty shirt is a "rehashed" design (although very fitting), only with a stronger, more direct political agenda, it does lose some of appeal and "inner beauty" and overall effect of what an original design would be.

Yay it's getting ridiculous, it's pretty much the same situation in Australia. It's not surprising though as here, Britain and America seem to be of one mind. They've made a mockery of human rights and I think it's unfair that they're using this whole "terrorism" thing to get these sweeping powers. So far all that has done is to alienate more people.

It's gone way overboard these days, I'm thinking whenever Bush talks about human rights and a fair go - everyone is laughing.

how has Britain made a mockery of human rights exactly? We are signed up to the same Human Rights Treaty as the rest of Europe with the European Court of Human Rights to enforce it....please explain what you mean....have you any examples?

I don't know why Ms Westwood is saying that the Government is trying to get rid of the independence of the judiciary - I suspect that is a figment of her highly developed imagination. I'd take what she says with a pinch of salt.

 When I saw the title I thought Viv was designing a range for the London store Liberty...kind of like whoever for Debenhams...I was having a hard time trying to reconcile Vivienne Westwood and Liberty prints:D

Ok...back to the serious stuff:hardhead:
