Vogue Australia December 2014 : Gemma Ward by Emma Summerton

I am pleased that they went a different direction and produced something that is not typically seen on traditional magazine covers. Not only is it in keeping with the theme of the issue but it's interesting to see how they're advancing fashion photography by combining it with visual effects/animation.

And yes, Australia is naturally very beautiful with numerous landscapes to shoot but it would get incredibly repetitive to see - plus, their October issue with Catherine McNeil was just that, shot in the Whitsundays.

It's very CGI looking. In the first preview image she appears to float. They could have done so much better.

That's because they collaborated with Animal Logic, a design, visual effects/animation firm.

This is too much high-tech and fake backgrounds for my liking!

Ikr? There's no need to be that obvious and cliché with a concept. Having those gradients on the logo makes it look cheap, not exactly metallic. She looks super stiff and overphotoshopped to the point of making her skin look like shiny plastic....and there was no need for that, since it's Gemma Ward we're talking about. I feel happy for her, but it leaves me disappointed, she deserved a better team for her 1st comeback cover.

Excited Gemma's on the cover, but underwhelmed by the end result, too much manipulation of the photo. Almost doesn't look like her.

Perhaps I'll just ignore the awful layout especially the masterhead. The fact that it's Gemma on the cover makes me satisfied already. Looking forward to seeing her editorial.

I wish this is one of those cases when the mag dedicates the entire issue to the cover model, that way we´d get more of her in different styles

I'm glad than she got the cover, but it's nothing special. Looking foward of the content.

Nice to see her.But I except more from Gemma.

Blah! Not the comeback shot that she should have had...but anyway, give credit where credits due; it is something different.

i acually like the cover, her face looks odd though but i won't complain because gemma is back ^_^

what is up with the photoshop?? her left eye is looking at me and her right eye is looking far away.

This futuristic theme isn't really doing anything for me, it leaves me cold. But I am super excited to see Gemma.

Gemma!!! So thrilled that this comeback is happening for real this time! The photoshop is ridiculous, but I guess the artificial look goes with the whole futuristic theme of the shoot.

You were right after all, Al92!! This is super quick turnaround from the team as they were still working on it a month ago. I'm not too sure about the masthead, but I do like the image. It's a novel concept for VA to colloborate with an animation agency, as they've not taken this avenue before. We've seen Jessica Hart, Cate, Abbey Lee, Cath all on beaches already. Gemma is the most fitting choice for the cover and probably she will have more than one story.

Looks like an outtake from one US Vogues numerous futuristic/space age stories, not excited by the actual cover but DYING that Gemma is the cover star.

The cover is okay, but the theme does not suit her.

I am just happy she's on the cover, she is very beautiful. I am sure it looks better in person.

Jumping on the disappointment wagon. Anyway i'm just glad to see her back, but there's way too muchphotoshopping going on

You're not supposed to look better in person than you do on the cover of Vogue!
