Vogue España February 2019 : Yasmin Wijnaldum by Giampaolo Sgura

An editorial offers the chance to tell a story that can unfold over several pages - but a cover is a one-shot chance to sell the contents of an entire issue.

Seeing the images as a series, I can appreciate the mood - but I still think that's an awful cover.

Horrible cover, but the editorial is ok & Yasmin looks like a young Brandi Quiñones.

Was thinking the same. It's not a bad issue by any stretch. I probably would've used another shot from Yasmin's set for the cover, or at the very least, Cindy Bruna's last shot. They'll miss out on so many impulse buyers because the cover definitely belies the content.

I find this edition so eager to throw their money at international photographers regardless of how mediocre they may be, just to seek legitimacy. Kind of like the early years of Vogue China. While the Sgura edit isn't awful, why give him so many pages or even go for him to begin with? The fashion and cultural landscape has changed. You're no loger supposed to look to Germany (in this case) to see what visual style to follow or who's the hot name to book. It's supposed to start at home. Last month Camila Falquez said that she was the first female Spanish photographer to book the cover. There's a great starting point for them to correct that wrong and kick off a new native trend. It's odd because Eugenia really did a great job at developing a strong identity at HB Spain.

Such a shame about the cover because the editorials are actually nice.
I had never seen Sophia Roetz before, she's a stunner, I hope to see more of her.

Surprised to see Paul Cavaco's editorial credit here but I guess that makes sense since Michelle Lee took over allure as EIC. Is this where's he's been lurking?

the issue thus far is pretty in that safe, nothing special, PORTER sort of way.

At least Yasmin looks great.

Do you really thing so? She's photoshopped beyond belief and looks dull/lifeless, one of the worst photos I've seen of her ever IMO.

Un Rancho En El Desierto

Inspiration? Georgia O'Keeffe, seemingly the only female artist who's on the fashion stylist's radar.

Vogue Espana Digital Edition

Ok I don't hate the spread... so many better cover options to chose from I almost wish I didn't see it!!

Valery Kaufman is frigging stunning. Wow.

And CINDY! I just adore her. She's got the most wonderful aura and energy. And she reminds me of the 90s models in her kind of fresh, healthy, optimistic vibe. She's gorgeous!

The thing about Yasmin is that she really thrives in print work for VS. Like, legit she's outrageously hot in those shoots. This kind of drab, bleak editorial doesn't do her any favours. And the image they chose for the cover is one of the worst of the lot.
