Lupita's skin looks out of this world stunning on the cover and in the ridiculously styled but no less captivating space age/dumpster dive Forever21 coat/Americana quilt mash up photo.
However, I would've loved more color close-up shots showcasing Lupita's radiant complexion and flattering cosmetic products for darker skin tones. More cosmetics brands are touting their new and improved 'inclusive' shade options but I haven't seen a dramatic push by magazine editors to feature these more expansive and undertone accurate shades. (Hello cosmetic displays starting from dark to light or recently trending Olive undertone designation).
In the not so distant past, the not so diverse elite of expert beauty editors used to dictate and report the beauty trends from behind the scenes. Now it's the sluggish print magazines desperately trying to keep pace with the constant echo of online buzz generated by social media savvy consumers. At once disheartening yet empowering, this almost surreal cultural transformation over the past 8 years or so has been fascinating to witness.
