Vogue France June/July 2022 : Raquel Zimmermann by Théo de Gueltzl

My PRECIOUS people ,

since many of you already sent me DMs with a question: "What, the hell, [has] happened with your™ (textless) images?!!", I think I owe you an explanation.

Vogue France's June-July 2022 edition celebrates the Mediterranean

Vogue France, Vogue Italia and Vogue España have pooled together their creativity to celebrate the Mediterranean.

By Eugénie Trochu
27 mai 2022

Journey over to the Mediterranean, the sea which connects France, Italy and Spain, which, despite being different lands, remain close in terms of heritage, tradition and the art of living. This June-July issue is dedicated to our most beautiful coastlines and features everything we love. Inside, you will find all the looks to raise the fashion temperature, all the waterfront hotspots and all of the attitudes, from the Riviera to the Balearic Islands via Southern Italy. For the first time, Vogue France, Vogue Italia and Vogue España have joined forces to celebrate holidays and farniente. While magazines exist to tint dreams, they have no less responsibility for the messages they convey.

Community, benevolence and individuality are all values that we share with Francesca and Inés, and they are the focus of this first opus, born from this collaboration. Raquel in Saint-Tropez, Mica in Ibiza and Adut in Pantelleria, are three unique profiles who, with their sunny confidence, are paving their way for a beauty that is in tune with its time, and with our beautiful Mediterranean.

So, without a further ado, turn immediately to the Vogue España (and, respectively, on June 3rd to the Vogue Italia) thread to see your (judging by how many DMs I've received for the past 12h!) much anticipated (the entire spreads') textless images!

Oh, oh, and just one more thing… When it comes to my previous post, yes, my lovely people, I KNOW... everything! But let's just say: "Dixi et animam salvavi"*.

Given that each Vogue's issue is being prepared 2-3 months in advance, I think this has nothing to do whether (a good) stylists (or, God forbid, the *CANCELED* photographers! :ninja:) were available at the time, but rather WHAT, in fact, America wants to say to the (rest of the) world (read: the good, old Europe - once upon a time a *CRADLE OF CIVILISATION* and now a miserable America's b*tch !).

In other words, if the very same America managed to convince the very same Europe how it would be better off to freeze this winter and/or to pay bread (loaf) and/or a liter of (cooking) oil a 3-5 times *MORE* than usual (not to mention the price of oil/gas :important), why do you think it is/would be so effing hard to convince you/us that you/us would be (also! :bunny:) better off by looking at these three extremely strong models (okay, Mica is not exactly my cup of tea; but each to their own, right?) in this desperate and appalling FASHION (noun [MANNER] › a way of doing things)?!!

Can you please avoid mixing politics in this forum please. Would be well appreciated.

Raquel’s editorial is… pathetic. regardless of the uninspiring photography she’s not giving much either now, is she?

not getting this issue after all. no way.

Raquel and Jill’s ed compliment each other well. But all the other eds are quite terrible.
I still don’t see any vision or the intention behind Eugénie’s Vogue. The magazine is still not about France and there isn’t any real fashion inside. There’s a bunch of unknown names with relative unknown memorable touch.
Yes, the YouTube Channel is maybe doing better but even there. The content is not as great as the one in US Vogue. I mean having fashion people judging random people looks? They should stick to going to people’s places and have the 7 days thing..

There’s no real sense of personality.

And maybe the worst thing is that Vogue France is not « The moment ». Emmanuelle’s era was very specific and it stopped being the moment very early but at least it had a personality. Vogue France is not an indicator of what’s going on right now in the culture in the world…It doesn’t feel very relevant…Which is surprising because the youth of the staff was supposed to make it feel like it is.

After flicking the full issue, I think this is quite a cute issue. Tbh In my opinion this is the best Vogue France issue under Eugenie.

Of course the quality is nowhere like the old Vogue Paris but I think the idea of European Vogues doing issue together is better than forcing them to put whatever shared US / UK Vogue editorials of the month and resulting in a disjointed issue.

At least the whole issue feels cohesive and I can finally see a little bit of personality and point of view from this magazine. Although I find the editorials a little bit one note, but if I'm traveling to France, I wouldn't mind buying this issue as a souvenir.

There’s no real sense of personality.

Any semblance to a strong, distinct personality was discarded once Emmanuelle left and the designation of “Vogue France” was enlisted. Her June/July issues were once as much of an event as the September and March issues. I’ll say it again, France and Italia are just inferior supplements to Edward’s Vogue now, and parrots/mirrors whatever he dictates. RIP Vogue Paris and Vogue Italia. (The photography and styling throughout looks like Bikini Village’s seasonal catalogue: Not even Jill and Raquel can save the stench of mid-range department store flyer aesthetic that’s now defined Vogue France. The only standout shot of the entire issue is the one of Adut in the green Cavalli gown-- and it's just a decent shot at best.)

LOL Vogue and the fashion industry are undeniably mingled with performative politics and social justice these days. As a matter of fact, many of these publications and new creatives wouldn’t exist if they weren’t chasing clout with every trending “progressively political” issue. But someone dares to push back with an opinion that’s not politically-correct, or aligned with liberal-progressive hive mind, and all of a sudden, it’s “ No politics!” LOOOL Thankfully, TFS isn’t twitter blue checks (… yet), and some political pushback to the mainstream opinion, is still (somewhat) allowed. Let it be so.

And last but not least, my E-T-E-R-N-A-L gratitude goes to the whole TFS's team, and ESPECIALLY to my love @vogue28 - AKA Mod Squad Team Leader - for being so supportive and understandable!!!

This is giving off major ‘crazy aunt on Facebook’ vibes

Near the back, there's a reprint of the Sofia Coppola/Chanel feature that recently appeared in UK Vogue.

I'll take Raquel's magazine over any dreadful recent issue of Vogue France just because of her. Her persona and status of legendary model save this trainwreck. Isn't the best cover, but it's La Zimmermann, she's bigger than life. Next time editors should make justice to her legend.

Omg! I love this! Raquel is very interesting and still looks like a baby!

having a second look at the editorial it’s actually growing on me… it’s somehow peaceful and quiet and that’s probably the direction of the shot.
it lacks energy still but I guess that’s what they wanted, a relaxed mood.

Vogue France remains the one Euro Vogue I still purchase on the regular (purely out of habit following years of loyal readership). It's still priced at £5.95 here, the cover is season appropriate, we've got Raquel Zimmermann and there's not a great deal I disapprove of! Still do miss Alt, though.
